*is scared of the explaination*
Hmm... maybe the story could take place somewhere around the 1930s, a few years after the discovery of King Tutankhamen's Tomb. Alan's character (I'll call him Leroy or Lee for short; it means 'powerful king' I think) could be an intelligient, yet under-appreciated professor/archaeologist, whose ambition to be written into the history books almost always works against him. [something like that; need to come up with more backstory for that] The university [don't know which one] he researches for is reluctant to give him the financial support to lead an expedition into the Valley of the Kings, or some other location he believes to hold a treasure much larger than that of King Tut [the other professors think he's a little too much of a risk taker or whatever, and don't want their money wasted]. But the discovery of Tut and the possibility of finding something greater convinces the university to give him the support he needs.
I haven't thought out the rest of the plot yet (too much sugar), but just a couple more suggestions.
~I like the name Sylvia, but not the surname. Can we have something like 'Sylvia Samson'? Samson means 'the brilliant sun' (or that's what the site said). There could be a plot line where Sylvia goes by the name Syl or Sam (whenever claiming credit for researches/discoveries or something like that) because the world isn't ready for the females claim to fame yet... or because she is one of those mischievious, energetic, etc spirits........
~ You know how I said that maybe Lee's ambition almost always works against him? Well, maybe during his early researcher days, Leroy married his childhood sweetheart, Abigail and they lived happily ever after for a couple of years. Abigail was glad that her husband was trying to make a name for himself and she didn't *really* mind those occasional long hours Leroy spent at the office. She knew he was brilliant. Leroy was at the top of his game, so to speak, and he was about to get this huge promotion type thing at the university that would've assured him an early retirement on the sandy beaches of the SomthingSomething Islands. But then Abigail was starting to get.... bored. She wanted a family and not a workaholic husband. Lee barely noticed all the warning signs; he was too caught up in achieving success. They have a big argument, she wants children, he needs his study time, she wants him to come home early, he is hair lengths away from satisfying is ambitions, she says he doesn't understand, he says that she doesn't understand what his work will earn them once he finishes, she tells him to shove it and then confesses that she has been cheating on him with a guy named Peter (I dunno), he says she's only lying to make him stop working. And then-- BAM!! No more Abigail. Lee's left brokenhearted and never gets to finish the last part of his project, etc.
~ I think that the romance between Lee and Sylvia should be really subtle in the beginning. There was more to it, but my brain is tired now....
*snores*
is there a love triangle? do we need a local lady to tempt our man?
maybe Shohreh Aghdashloo ( House of Sand and Fog)?
and when is it set?
