Now i am back and have seen this film i can give you all my verdict.
Well the film was a bit disturbing it was ok but not what i would usally watch. I loved Alan in it though but i don't think the film was worthy of him, if you know what i mean. I'd give the film 2/5 and Alan 4/5 because i just love his acting.

How shocking of me as a devote Rickmanic... I started watching this movie at the weekend, but it was disturbing me so much I actually switched it off after about 30mins! It wasn't Alan's performance that was alarming me at all, he was marvellous as ever, it was the entire plot that was scarying me!

I know exactly what you mean, Michelle. The subject matter is so icky. I'm not a fan of Clive Owen either. But, the Alan parts are very, very good. He apparently came into the film 2/3 of the way through the shoot as this was the year where he was making 4 films. Try and fast forward to the Alan parts, he looks stunning and as usual carries an otherwise poor film - his acting was great. I have the DVD of this and it is worth it as it has a lovely interview with Alan.

I agree elsa. He is quite stunning in this one. The story is...how shall I say...in need of the fast forward button, for those Alan shots . Otherwise, it could be a little tough to sit through. Of course, that is just my opinion. The story is just a bit disturbing I must say! I say this, but I own it and I will end up watching it again sometime soon of course .

My folks go on holiday next week, I might get the tape out (recorded off tv) and whizz through to the Alan parts. I'm rather curious about this supermarket scene...

I managed to watch it all but i did find it disturbing as others, i don't see how anyone wouldn't so why make a film of it! Alan does play a good part in it though just shame about the rest.

CME is a most uncomfortable film to watch. Next time I do watch it I'll just skip to the Sinclair scenes. I don't think I could watch it again otherwise and it's a shame because Alan is great and gorgeous in it. I sometimes wonder why Alan chooses the films that he does; he is well known to Producers and Directors in taking ages to say yes or no, so he obviously thinks very deeply about each project. To me I think he has made 3 uncomfortable to watch films: Close My Eyes; Closetland; and AABA. I guess we will never know, unless he decides one day to write his memoirs. However, in CME, I love the Supermarket scene - just imagine bumping into him in Asda . I think my favourite part is the kitchen scene. LOL! "There's a flUd in the kitchen!" ;D

I just watched this last night for the first time, and had the same reaction - Why this movie? He's completely out of place here, talent wise. He's far and above the best performer in this movie . . . what was it that drew him to this project? He does have a propensity to be in 'icky' themed movies, doesn't he? I mean, this is the second one regarding incest alone! Ack! OK - here were my favorite parts: Best acting bit - When he's sitting in that chair, and his wife has just come back from her weekend, and he knows she's lying to him. The look on his face . . . oh wow! You can see the pain and love in his eyes. How does he do that with just an expression? Sexiest Alan bit - Easy! When he's rubbing ointment on his wife's leg. The way he's stroking and caressing her. Gulp. Yum. Best Sinclair Line - "I mean, I could start screaming . . . "

I believe Alan knows good talent when he sees it. My thought is that he likes to support good talent when ever he can, and help independent writers and/or directors get off the ground. At least he wasn't the one performing the incest this time ! whew! He is such an amazing actor. There aren't even words good enough, that can express his brilliance.

That makes sense . . . wants to maybe add his talent behind a small project. Works for me! It's funny because Clive Owen has become quite a good actor (I absolutely adored him in Gosford Park) - it was funny to see him so young here, and so green. He's come a long way, talent-wise, I think. LOL - I was thinking the same thing when i wrote that - but didn't mention it. When I watch this movie again - I'm definitely going to just skip to the Alan bits . . .

I actually liked this movie, but I did find the topic kinda sickening. I read a story in a magazine once about a brother and sister having kids together... It's shocking that this actually happened in real life. But I really liked Alan's acting in this one..all the talking and eating...lol...and not to forget the kitchen scene. It reminded me of my ex boyfriend when he tried to do laundry and white foam came out And Alan looked so yummy in this one, I especially like him when he's sitting in the chair..

Ah, yes the chair shot. I have two of them, my favorite is: I found this movie to be delightful. Not nearly enough Alan in it. But... I kind of like sick character study-type movies.
