Where did you order it from? How much did you have to pay for it? I sooooo want this movie on dvd. I know you whre not talking to me, but I got my Mesmer DVD from Best Buy. My mom ordered it off their website. Edit: I looked on Best Buy's site, and they don't have it. I thought she ordered it from there, but I don't know now. Sorry.

Saw this one today. Sound quality was awful . . . but the costumes were great! Alan was good in it . . . he managed to portray the character really well. He even had some funny lines (when he's talking to his horrible hag of a wife - quite Snape-ish)! Over all the movie kind of rambled really, and it was a bit slow. Worth it if only for the alan hair, velvety costumes and smokey voice. LOL!

it is the sound quality... yes, the level should drop a bit as he whispers, but not so far that it becomes distracting. in some scenes, it is a case of a poor original recording - when Mesmer is speaking to the room full of women " don't be frightened if you swoon away, don't resist" we lose his voice. And this is not because Alan is dropping his voice, this is because there was no microphone dedicated soley to him. because of mic placement, we pic up the room more than him. and talk about an excess fo room tone. the ambient noise levels in this movie are like listening to fingernails on a chalboard. In others scenes (like when he is whispering to the blind girl), they have done nothing to boost the recording level and support his voice. it is basic sound class. "yes he's whispering". boost the gain. "oh this is hard to hear", lets double the voice here when we play it back, this will keep its lush richness but eliminate the need to strain sorry if this is a bit ranty. I hate bad sound. >:(hate it.

Squirellywrath, you are right about the sound quality. I personally think the DVD should be digitally enhanced just for the audio. Some of the key scenes, like the final scene of the movie, just cannot be heard and it makes it more difficult for people like me who have tinnitus.
I agree with you entirely, I hate bad audio quality. For such a beautifully shot movie the sound sucks.

The sound quality is very poor on this movie.
Whenever I watch it, I have to keep the remote handy. I turn the volume waaaaaaaay up just to hear people talking. And then the wailing starts, and I have scramble for the remote to turn the volume down before it blows out the speakers.
It's really too much work...

I read somewhere, that the extras (who were local villagers) for the film, were only provided rolls to eat during the filming and when Alan found out, he became extremely upset about it. Needless to say, after Alan was finished, the extras were provided with full meals like the rest of the cast and crew were getting. Way to go Alan!

Finally broke down and ordered the movie yesterday. Amazon says 4-6 weeks before they ship. I ordered the VHS ($10 as opposed to $32 for the DVD) so that must be why it's going to take so long. I know it'll be worth the wait.
