Rasputin If you haven't seen this movie yet, you must! DITTO! Alan's portrayl of Rasputin was very, very powerful, in my humble opinion. He was able to give humor and humanity to the man Rasputin, as well as make him the appalling and frightening. Alan becomes Rasputin by also "acting without words." With just the simple use of his eyes, Rasputin becomes more horrific than all the others. There is nothing one-dimensional to his character.

This is one the best films he has ever done,IMO of course,he is so good,he made me laugh, cry and even want to shake him, what a performance,he deserved all the credit he got for his portrayal of Grigori....I must watch this film soon....

His Emmy for this role is well deserved (and I'd say that if he didn't win, the system is rigged). There have been very few times where I have been watching something, and just gone, "Wow..." at the performance...
(and to think, I picked up the VHS for $3!)

I shelled out nearly $30 for it and just found a credit on my card equalling the amount of the purchase so now i know why I never got it. Gotta keep looking now that everyone says they loved it.

Gosh, I absolutely adored this film!!! One of the best ones with Alan!
I saw it last week and I'm still very impressed. Alan created somebody who behaved like a simple man but he wasn't that simple. This kind of duality which he shows so naturally makes him an excellent actor. He showed it for example in "Blow Dry" too, where he is a random man, but there are only appearances.
His Rasputin was violent, mad, unhappy, helping, harming, satisfied, he was using people to achieve his own goals... he was out of this world, really. Hats off!

You'll notice there aren't a lot of people using Rasputin pictures for their signatures/avatars. LOL
I think it may be one of his best roles. Frightening, intense, disgusting: just what the real Rasputin most likely was to most people who saw him.

Oh, so do I. If anyone wants the larger version I have, I ask that you host it yourself, but feel free to save it to your computer. I have it hosted at: www.hypatia.us/AlanRickmanStatue.jpgThere are like 5 of these "statue" shots, some in black-and-white. All of them are very adorable.

Aw, I loved this movie! He played his part terrific, and if you think away the scary beard he actually looks very delicious in the movie.

My VHS of Rasputin just arrived today. $15 on e-bay. Even for Alan I wouldn't pay what Amazon is asking. But I was lucky to find a Region 1. Even so, it's used. So much for the background.
Wow ... Impressive ... Fantastic = Emmy. This role was made for Alan. I really didn't watch the movie, just Alan's performance. He was mesmerizing. The rest of the movie was just background; a showcase for a master at work.

Oh dear, just finished it! Even as Rasputin he is so sensual...wow! I am wowed by that one. What an amazing job he did. And I have to say that I thought Ian McKellen was great too.
Wow!! Really I am blown away at this one.
Now I have to buy it of course...
