Alan has been confirmed to be starring in a new movie titled Bottle Shock, filming this month onwards in California and to be released 2008. Alan is confirmed to play the creator of the wine competition, Steven Spurrier, in 1979 at the centre of the movie. Filming will be primarily at Sonoma wineries, California, as well as in Glen Ellen and Calistoga. The cast also includes Nobel Son co-star Eliza Dushku. The film is already in some trouble and has a rival production to compete with. Not good when the character Alan is to play is alive and threatening sueing the film makers He also had this comment which I don't think favours Alan playing Spurrier: Mr Spurrier, who was 34 at the time of the original tasting, said the production company had mooted some big names to play his character. "I said I wanted an English actor and they suggested Hugh Grant, but I said he's too old. They said Jude Law, I said too beautiful."Guardian Unlimited]Read more (and a nicer description of the film) here

Hopefully they won't pull the plug on them... I want to see this and most of all, I want to see Alan in this film.

There's a photo of Alan in costume on the set of bottle shock at the local newspapers photo gallery (sorry its copyright and cleverly blocking attempts to 'borrow' it). PHOTOSAnd there's some set reviews too which you can read via my website *shameless plug* reports from the set in the Bottle Shock section

Bottle Shock is set for release January 2008. Cannot wait to see what they have done with it. Having family in California and in that area I love the wineries and the area is fabulous. I am sure Mr. Rickman will produce a wonderful performance as always. Was facinated that they had run into some of the problems that they did. For all you fans of California wines it will give you a glimpse of the wonderful history behind it all.

Alan is currently at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, USA. Here, Bottle Shock has had its premiere and there's press junkets a plenty. Quote from a journalist at Sundance: " Alan Rickman being chased by a group of teens shouting, "Alan!" and "Potter!" Rickman was heading into the party for Be Kind Rewind -- a party in which yours truly was not allowed into"
Plus read this article with a (brief) couple of quotes from Alan and a photo at the bottom (wearing his favourite fish scarf again). Cinema Blend

Shame that it has gotten the knock it has before it will be available for the public to decide if they like it or not. I have seen the trailor and it looks interesting to say the least. Loving the Napa Valley myself I am looking forward to see the area on the big screen. So what if the movie is only based loosely on the events or the people, if I wanted to see exactly what when on and didn't want to be entertained I would just watch the History Channel or something!

Have you by any chance heard anything about when or if Bottle Shock will be in theaters? All has gone quite on this one as well as Nobel Son. Nobel Son was supposed to be in theaters in March but I have seen absolutely nothing for it but the trailer which I found on line.

No, April 4th would be actual theater release. It was released in festival last year at the Tribecca film festival up in NYC. Glad to hear that, it will come right on the heels of the Sweeney Todd dvd release which is April 1st here in the States. Thanks for your response, was starting to get a little depressed over the fact that all his movies seem to be bypassing us here in little ole Delaware!!!!!

To all that are interested.... Bottle Shock looks like it will be limited released in August. Looks mainly in the California area. Who knows maybe it maybe released in some of the larger cities like New York as well.

Does it seem like his recent movies are being limited released? Or, is it just me? I want to see this movie, but now I don't know if it will be avaliable. I'm having Rickman withdrawl.

Was reading an article yesterday that said that it would be released to 250 theaters nationwide. Hopefully you live near a large city. I would guess that will be where the releases will be. I was hoping to be in California in August but economy doesn't make that look too good right now. I will be checking Philadelphia and NYC Theaters in hopes that it will open there. I too am seriously going through withdraw for something new...... Guess that is the mark of real fans.
