This thread is to discuss the wonderful music John Williams has composed for the Harry Potter movies. Discuss!

Yay!
I love the soundtracks. Love. I have all three on my iPod. It's getting to the point where I can listen to a selection and determine which part of which movie the song is from.
I don't know if that is cool, or scary.

I love the soundtracks, too! I can also listen to the music and know where that music goes with the scenes in the movies. I have yet to get the PoA soundtrack, but I've listened to soundclips and love how it sounds. I'm planning on getting that for my birthday (September 7th), too. ;D

You must get it! It's so different from the others, but it's a good kind of different.
And I totally get chills whenever I hear the end of "Hedwig's Theme" (not sure why. It probably has something to do with it being used in every Potter promotion, and since I'm such a fangirl, I squeeeeeeee like crazy)...

I don't know if I'll be able to wait until my birthday to get the PoA soundtrack! lol. From what I've heard of the soundclips, the music sounds more mature than the other HP soundtracks. I especially love the sound of Buckbeak's Flight and A Window to the Past.
I know what you mean about getting chills. Whenever I hear really good music (mostly John Williams music or Howard Shore music) I get chills or shivers or whatever you want to call it. I think it's because of the emotion the music evokes.

*bump* Isn't there anyone else who loves the Harry Potter soundtracks? I saw the new Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire clip and the music sounds so beautiful! I watch it over and over again just for the music! lol I hope that's the music that will be used in the film, but I'm not sure because Patrick Doyle was said to have just begun recording the score. So that brings me to wonder whether the music in the clip is really part of the score for GoF or a song taken from somewhere else. *crosses fingers hoping the music is for GoF*

Uhm.. I do! I even bought the music sheets for the PoA soundtrack and taught myself how to play part of Hedwig's Theme and Double Trouble. Of course, it's not as good as the CD. The music from the GoF trailer gave me goosebumps. I loved it. (it sort of reminds me of Lord of the Rings though )

I also hope that will be the music used in the movie. I think it's rather haunting and beautiful... ETA: An article about the composer, Patrick Doyle was posted on TLC. I didn't know that he composed the music for Blow Dry and Sense & Sensibility (as well as Much Ado About Nothing, which gives me great hope, because I *loved* the music in that film)...

I love the soundtracks. I sometimes play the third soundtrack while I go to sleep. My favorite songs are A Window To The Past, and The Dueling Club.

I love the soundtracks - but I only own the third one. Are the first two different enough to get as well? I love the 'medieval' feel to a few of the tunes (Hagrid's The Professor is my fav!). I'm such an overwhelming geek that I often play it in the background while I'm surfing at the COS Forums *is embarassed*
I also of course love Hedwig's Theme - it's so beautiful and perfectly captures that 'essense of magic'! I think it must be the 'celesta' that is used to such great effect!
This is what worries me about the GOF movie - will they use "Hedwig's Theme"? It's just not Harry Potter without that!!

Sad news...I found out that the music in the trailer is most likely NOT the music that is going to be in GoF. The music in the trailer was made by this site: magicboxmusic.com/At least, that's what I've been hearing. Too bad.. I was really hoping to hear the trailer music in the film. But the trailer was released before Patrick Doyle started recording his score so it makes sense that it isn't his music in the trailer. I'm really, really hoping that Doyle composed a spectacular score for GoF.

Has anyone heard this version of Hedwig's Theme? It rocks... literally! ;D A word of caution: make sure you don't have the volume on your speakers turned up loud!

So how many people have heard the songs from the GoF soundtrack? If you go here, you can listen to four of the songs. They're different, yet they seem to fit. I just *love* "This is the Night", by the way...

I think I love " Do the Hippogriff" the tune is catchy, I find myself singing it... the lyrics are priceless:
" move your body like a hairy troll learning to rock and roll " spin around like a crazy elf dancing by himself" " boogie down like a unicorn don't stop until the break of dawn
" put your hands up in the air like an ogre just don't care"
chorus " can you dance the hippogriff? flying out from a cliff " sweeping down to the ground wheeling round and round and around"
and my fave lines
"move around like an angry ghost spooking himself the most shake your booty like a boggart in pain again and again and again" ;D
"get it on like an angry specter is definitely out to get ya" stamp your feet like a leprechaun get it on repeat chorus
now your moving like a creature of the night if its right creature of the night if its right
repeat chorus

I got this soundtrack for my birthday. While I don't think it's as "memorable" as the previous soundtracks, it is rather good. I *love* "The Qudditch World Cup" and "Death of Cedric" (never fails to make me a bit misty-eyed).

I have a friend who burnt the soundtracks of the 1st three movies for me. They're really great.
