This is one of the few movies I do not have. I've only seen about 20 minutes of Closet Land, but it was enough to give me the chills. There are only two actors in the film, so there is sure to be lots of Alan. However, from the looks of it, this is a really disturbing film and not for the weak of heart. I was hiding behind my pillow after just the first few minutes. You can find the Closet Land clip at Alan Rickman Download Haven. Just scroll down and click the picture of the Interragator.

For me, Alan's performance in "Closet Land" is his all-time B-E-S-T!!! Had "Closet Land" * NOT* been an independent movie, I am sure that both Alan and Madeleine Stowe would have, and should have, received an Oscar for their commanding and riveting performance. Before having watched "Closet Land", I thought that Alan's best performance in a movie was in "Sense and Sensibility", "Die Hard", "Truly, Madly, Deeply", "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and "Close My Eyes", but I remember after having finished "Closet Land", I had just no words to describe both Alan's and Madeleine's performance in this *AMAZING* work of art, both from a concept point of view and as actors. I was totally awestruck by the sheer intensity, physicality and emotional input these two injected in "Closet Land" ... I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! In fact, I urge you to check out " CLOSET LAND" (a Stanley Kubrick-esque/minimalist type of movie, where only 2 actors showcase their talents: Alan Rickman and Madeleine Stowe) wherein Alan, in my considered opinion, gives the performance of a lifetime (even if * EVERY* performance of his is just *** STELLAR***) by simultaneously embodying 3 different characters: the "good cop", the Interrogator (the "bad cop") and the Friendly Rooster--he changes character and moods within seconds from each other--an acting genius ... a MASTER THESPIAN, I tell you!!! The premise of "Closet Land" is that Madeleine Stowe, a victim of child abuse, plays a children's book author who has been brought in for interrogation over an unfinished and unpublished manuscript found in her home called "Closet Land". Alan Rickman is the government interrogator who wants her to sign a Confession which states that she is trying to influence the minds of children with this "anti-government" literary work. When she refuses, torture ensues. The torture is powerfully suggested, never shown, but it still sends chills down your spine. What makes it even worse is that we know the main character is entirely innocent of the charges. Alan definitely deserved an Oscar for this multi-dimensional role. He was at once chilling, repulsive and vile, all the while exuding an undercurrent of compassion and ... sexuality, and yet, however repugnant he seemingly appears, you can't help but want to be *RAVISHED* by the man. Huh? He really makes the viewer go through a whirlwind of emotions, leading him to seriously contemplate: "Uhmmm ... do I "hate", "love" or "feel sorry" for this guy?" (*Can I hear everyone repeat after me: "ACTING GENIUS"?! Thank you ... so much!*)Alrighty then! End of my critique ... but do take note of my "N.B.", a discaimer of sorts, further down below. And as an appetizer, I have uploaded the 20-minute videoclip from " CLOSET LAND" for you, which is in WinZip (it is a L-O-N-G clip), for which I thank Claudia over at Download Haven Guest Book, and must be unzipped once downloaded. Please let me have your comments on Alan's riveting and chilling performance. This is my * TOP* favourite Rickman movie and a true Rickmanista should definitely have this movie in his/her personal "Ultimate Rickman Movie Collection":- "CLOSET LAND" 20-minute videoclip ... Click here!N.B.: "Closet Land" is a very important movie *IF* it is viewed as a way to understand abuse and torture, and *NOT* as a means to indulge in sadistic fantasy. It is rare to see such an accurate and raw depiction of the experience of abuse. However poignant and indelibly convincing Rickman's and Stowe's performances actually were, all of the torture was merely alluded to--aggressively so, yes--but none of it was ever actually exposed. And this is *EXACTLY* the beauty of this movie: it capitalizes on the "power of suggestion", verbally-induced fear, as well as the fear of the unknown and the unexpected, all brilliantly acted out by both Rickman and Stowe in a minimalistic environment and enhanced by music which *REALLY* defined the pivotal moments. I would, however, *NOT* recommend this movie to abuse/torture survivors. Its content is extremely disturbing and triggering, and the mere insinuation of torture could evoke vivid, personal memories.

Hmm, I was talked into buying this movie by a friend. I don't regret it at all. Even though I found the movie VERY disturbing at time..and I have to admitt, I did hide behind the pillow a few times LOL, but it was a really brilliant performance by both Alan and Stowe. I especially loved it when Alan, as the Interrogator, pretended to be 3 different people to the unsuspecting victim (Stowe) But Alan's character made me really mad throughout the movie...but I guess that's what he is supposed to do. LOL And I was also really amazed that only two actors, two great ones I may add, were carrying this whole movie. But I do agree, this movie is NOT for the faint-hearted.

I've watched it today Alan was scary Not only was he scary, but also he was empathetic, evil, sexy in one... It was a role made just for him. The movie took place almost in the same room all the time. There were moments when Alan acted like a theatre actor what is good, I guess. All in all, he got an evil role to play
