Hi guys, well while browsing on Mugglenet i noticed the new poll that they have. Jo say's why did Dumbledore have James Invisibility cloak when he doesn't need a cloak to be invisible! they have some options to vote which are: 1. So it could be used for an order mission 2. It has hidden powers 3. It hold a clue to Harry's past and maybe even a secret message 4. Snape was at Godric Hollow that night and attempted to steal the cloaks but was thwarted by Dumbledore (yeah right ) 5. I have no idea, why do you do this to us Jo? I think i voted Hidden powers, i am trying to think when he used the cloak and if anything springs in my mind about when he has used it. It was always returned to him. So what do you all think? Discuss here

Discuss here I didn't know Dumbledore didn't need an invisibility cloak to be invisible! In my defence its been a while since I read the books. I think if I'd take part in the pool I would have had to answer number 5 Although 1 and 3 also opens up a lot of questions...

It was always returned to him. I think Jo just forgot where she left it last! That's always boggled me as well. But, I think if it was central to the story, or did serve some 'other' purpose, certainly Harry would've pondered this, and something more would've been said about it.

That is a very interesting post, I have heard of this question before and it's always confused me, I mean I didn't know Dumbledore could be invisible without an invisiblity cloak though i remember hearing that, but umm what I'm trying to say is, does it play an important role for Harry? he goes to the philosophers stone with it, he finds out about sirius black and peter pettigrew in 3rd yr with it, but maybe it plays a more important role, maybe james gave it to dumbledore when they went into hiding, knowing that harry would come out of it alive, yet realising his life would be spared, there are too many possiblities though i think we will find out in DH (Deathly Hallows)

This question was answered in The Deathly Hallows.

Gosh! TigerSnake's reply makes me realise how much time has passed since the Deathly Hallows was published. Everybody knows the answer now. Dumbledore borrowed the cloak from James (who didn't know it was a 'Hallows' as he just wanted to see it - he already had the wand. And when he knew the whereabouts of the Resurrection stone, he would have been able to unite all 3 of the the Hallows. But he didn't - he'd learned his lesson that it wasn't his destiny. He knew it was Harrys'.
