Here you can discuss the movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerors/Philosophers Stone.

I watched this movie recently (as part of my belated Harry Potter birthday celebration. I'm so much of a geek, I actually celebrate some birthdays), and I realized that I didn't like it as much as I did before.
I think my biggest nitpick is that some things seemed so random. They were in the book, but they were shoved into the movie in the oddest places (the whole thing with Trevor comes to mind).
Of course, I was stupid and decided to watch it at 1 in the morning, so it could have been early morning grumpiness setting in...

I haven't really watched this movie in a long time. *reminises about when the movie first came out* It seems like it came out such a long time ago.

Heh, tell me about it. When it came out I was just starting college. And now I've graduated from college... :-)

I hadn't even started high school then. I think I was in 8th grade. Now I'm a high school senior! It's just like with the books. I was like 13 when I first began the series and now when the 7th book comes out (in two years! That's too long to wait!) I'll be a college freshman or sophomore! Oh great...I'm feeling old.

Well right after watching SS, I decided to get on the internet and view the trailer for GoF. My gosh, the trio were so tiny back then!
Anyway, back more to SS, I've noticed that the special effects have greatly improved since then. There were a few times where I winced, just because the effects seemed so bad (compare the flying lesson scene to say, the scenes featuring Buckbeak)...

When I first saw that trailer, I was like, awwww, they're so little! It's neat to see how they're growing up along with the characters in Harry Potter.

I actually liked this movie.
But I didn't like how they cut out the task about the potions when Harry was trying to get to the SS/PS. That was Snape's task! *angry* How dare they?!

Oh yeah, I remember that. When I first saw it, I was like, "wait a sec. They cut out one of the tasks!" And that was Snape's task! How dare they cut out more Snape! I am becoming more and more certain that they are purposly trying to torture us.

I actually didn't really notice Alan too much when I first saw this film. I thought he was a great Snape, but that was pretty much it. By the next movies, though, I noticed his amazing presence and great talent for portraying Snape. He was Snape. Deep down I think I might have always thought that, but it wasn't till recently when I guess you could say I was diagnosed with Rickmanista. I have always loved Snape's character in the books (Seriously, I look forward to every chapter with him. He's just such an interesting, mysterious character), too for some reason... Sorry if none of this made sense. lol

Do any of you know where to find the extra footage, or deleted scenes from Philospher's Stone. Apparently there is a continuation of the Potions class. I have tried to find this on the DVD to no avail. Can anyone tell me where I can find these. If it is on Disk 2 can you tell me exactly where it is. It's so long and tedious trying to navigate through there.

Finding the deleted scenes can take some time and be a little confusing, but I think it's worth it, because Alan is so great in the extended potions class scene. I hope this site helps: www.moviemistakes.com/film1654/eastereggs

I FINALLY found it. Thank you for your help. Alan is simply awesome in this role. That scene is great. No other actor could pull it off like Rickman did. He is really convincing as Snape being a no nonsense Professor who demands respect.

For anyone remotely interested in such facts:
The surname Snape is a real last name. For kicks, I called up phonebook names for a particular densely populated state and came up with about 6 or 7 Snapes. One had a first name something like Eldora. And I'm thinking...DANG! Eldora Snape. There is Severus' long lost cousin (JKR says he has no sister so couldn't use that). Okay, now you know I'm just joking about the last part, but these names were real.
