Ooohh, cool message board! Now we can converse about Alan Rickman without interruption! yay! So, I suppose I should help start this off. Alan Rickman is the perfect Snape. No one else could be Snape, in my opinion. Alan Rickman's voice (oohh that voice is simply amazing!), actions, movements, everything about him fit Snape's personality perfectly. Now whenever I read a passage in the HP books with Snape in it, I imagine Alan Rickman's Snape. I don't really do this with any of the other characters. I can't wait to see some pictures of Snape in GoF!

Heh! Whenever I read Harry Potter, I imagine Alan's voice as Snape. For that alone, he's perfect. And then you throw in his other acting abilities... perfection.
I will say, while he doesn't really look like how I imagined Snape, I'd rather have an actor who has the character down pat, rather than someone who kind of has the looks...

yes, Alan's voice...is just simply amazing. I love his voice.
I can't remember how I imagined Snape before I saw the movie. I don't think I ever imagined him with a beard, though (like in Mary Grandpre's drawings of him). I definitely imagine Alan's voice, too, whenever I read a passage where Snape says something.

Hey, I found you! Awesome messageboards, EmmyMik. I'm really glad that the movie execs didn't give Snape a beard. It just wouldn't look right, IMHO. But yes, Alan's voice is perfect for Snape. In fact, it's perfect in anything! It's really interesting that his baritone voice is the way it is because of a speech impediment. (He had an unusually tight jaw as a child.) I think that's what people call 'a blessing in disguise.' ;D

Wow, that's weird to know he had a speech impediment. That is a blessing in disguise! Because of that, we get to hear his wonderful voice!

*appreciates* (Nice one, Emmymik At least we know we won't be shunted around in here ) Hmm, Snape with a beard. Doesn't really work for me... And yes, it's definitely a blessing in disguise. His voice makes him one of the most unique actors on the planet

I agree. I think he deserves an Oscar nominee for best actor (for his portrayal of Snape, I think it would be best supporting actor as he isn't a main character). Don't you think?

I think he's definately one of the most overlooked actors when it comes to the hardware. He's got an Emmy and a few other awards, but he hasn't been able to snag that Oscar yet (of course nothing I like ever wins these types of awards). He brings so much to his roles, and each character is oh so different (he's been typcast as the actor for bad guys, and each one is so different)...

I totally agree with you. I don't get why he is so overlooked because he is one amazing actor.

I think part of it may be due to film choice. He's either in these "low budget" films that no one outside of Rickmaniacs have heard of (such as An Awfully Big Adventure). Or he's in bigger budget films that only stand a chance at winning the Oscar for costume design or special effects...

Hi all. I love Alan so much he is the only Snape ever! If he ever stops playing Snape i don't know what i'd do. I love HP but i think it would make me not watch them! i don't know, i still would have the books to read and i could still pictue Alan as Snape in them.
I watch PoA again last night i love the bit where Snape protects the trio, love it.
The man is an acting genius.

I love that part where Snape protects the trio, too. hmm...I wonder if that might foreshadow what Snape might do in the 7th book. I believe Snape is good so I bet he risks his life for Harry and also Ron and Hermione and any others who might be by Harry's side when he goes against Voldemort. That would prove to everyone that Snape is good.
I know, if Alan doesn't continue to play Snape I'll be devastated.
Oh and EmmyMik you have a point there. It sucks actually that he can't snag an Oscar.

I do think that it is forshadowing Snapes true colours. We have got to ask out selves it was added to the film so it has to have a reason! I believe that reason is because he will protect the trio again and it is forshodowing on that part.

Wouldn't that be terrible if Snape actually turned out to be evil and on Lord Voldemort's side? I won't let myself think that, though. EDIT: hmm...I think we're getting off topic here. Maybe we should bring this discussion to the Harry Potter book 7 speculation thread. This thread is after all an Alan Rickman appreciation thread and we're discussing theories about the books.

I love Alan's facial acting, oh the looks. It's amazing how much he's able to convey with the tiniest twitch of a facial muscle ... I wish I had a teaspoonful of his talent when it came to acting, then I'd be happy

I love Alan's facial acting, oh the looks. LOL. Yes, he doesn't need to say anything, we can just look at his face and know what he's thinking. Come to think about it, that isn't a good thing if you do that normally; I know b/c I've insulted people that way. So I hope he only does that when he's acting... And I agree that he does a perfect Prof. Snape. That voice does the trick.
