I just watched this again last weekend . . . and I really love when he's falling off the tower . . . such an amazed look on his face. Reading the commentary on the DVD, it turns out the director fooled him into thinking they were going to release him on '3', but then did it on '1' so that they could get his reaction on film. It worked! They also said that they did this several times and sorta coerced him to do the stunt himself because the stunt guys absolutely will not do a backwards fall from a height. They don't like not seeing where they are going. So they got AR to do this himself. Of course, that trick of letting him go early got the desired results (the surprised look...and who can blame him) but I think the commentary said his back was hurting him and it took a bit of time to get him to go do it several times. Thought that was pretty mean if you ask me. *nods* I've got the "regular" DVD version of this (not the one from the trilogy) and McTiernan (the director) states that the look on Alan's face is one that you can only get when "gravity takes over". And that they dropped him SEVEN STORIES!!! ( it's really him falling on that wideshot down the side of the building). He also states that Alan made him do the stunt first, before he would do it. Poor Alan. His first big movie, and what do they do? Drop him off seventy feet off the side of a building (and injure him).

I will be watching this one very soon, as this one is on our Christmas movie list. Perhaps today would be a good day! If not...sometime this week would be good! I can't wait. This is my favorite Alan movie I think, although it is really hard to choose my favorite Alan movie. I love him in everything. Barchester Chronicles almost became my favorite. He was really good. Anyway..before I go too off topic. I can't wait for my Christmas Die Hard movie ;D!

Thank goodness my husband was on my side ;D! We did watch it tonight ! I have a new favorite Alan line...here it is: "I am an exceptional thief Mrs. McClane, and since I'm moving up to kidnapping, you should be more polite." I love it !

I watched Die Hard yesterday for the first time (it was a Christmas gift for me! I got a DVD with the movie ;D) What can I say? I loved Alan in this, I think it was one of his best roles. I don't know why but his voice was what hit my eyes there the most... it was perfect. I loved all his speeches and Alan with a gun I've never seen him like this. He's great as an evil guy, but he's also believable as a grey and good character. He stole Willis's show! (as always, he always steals show, poor other actors )

Really, you take away Alan and it's a HORRIBLE movie (and I *love* this movie). The Bruce Willis/Carl Winslow (okay, I don't know the actor's name, nor do I know his character's name. I just know him as Carl Winslow from "Family Matters". I'm not sure what that says about me) are extremely cringeworthy. Really, everything with Bruce Willis is cringeworthy.
Also, for those Rickmaniacs living near a Circuit City who *don't* have this lovely movie on DVD yet, this week the Die Hard DVD is advertised for $4.99. That's a crazy good price and worth every penny for this Alan film. </public service announcement>

The movie without Alan would be more boring... because I've already seen this kind of movies with a faster, more interesting action... Bruce gets 'paler' when he's compared to Alan...

I loved this movie; 1st big movie for Alan in America. Has anyone seen all three Die Hard movies? I didn't like the 2nd, but the 3rd... it's as great as the 1st one! It's tied in with Alan's character Hans, and you see a little piece of Hans that lasted like 5 seconds (when he fell off the building). Anyway, it's pretty good. The Bruce Willis/Carl Winslow (okay, I don't know the actor's name, nor do I know his character's name. I just know him as Carl Winslow from "Family Matters". I'm not sure what that says about me) LOL. Don't worry, that's how I know him too.

Just saw this again for the first time in years and felt as I have felt when Ive watched it before - blergh. I just dont see it - the characters are two dimensional at best, the acting is forced (apart from ar of course) and the whole thing just doesnt fill me with joy, dread or desire LOL
I felt that the character of Hans was underdeveloped and the jump between german and english accents was just odd. If this had been the first AR movie i had seen it would not have inspired me to be a fan. its not that his acting was bad - it's just that the character had no depth. I have seen movies wherein the bad guys have multiple parts to their characters - wives, kids, friends, brothers....they have a reason for what they are doing...they dont just steal money cause they want some money!
I know I know - but we are each entitled to our opinions.

yeah i get what ya mean, but hey, its still an AR movie tho, lol, and reading what you's were saying about the director telling him they would let him go on 3 and then letting him fall on 1 instead, good bit of trivia ^_^ i like some of the one liners in there tho, but i assume this is a family friendly board and I wont repeat it! lol

It's funny because I first saw this movie in Germany and so totally missed all the beautiful nuances of Alan's voice. . . dubbing should be outlawed! When I finally saw it in the States, it was like, 'who's this now?' The man's amazing without even speaking, but 'The Voice' and his delivery . . . wow - makes all the difference in the world, doesn't it? Just goes to show just how good an actor this man is. Die hard was the movie that first brought my attention to him. Good film made even better with Alan.

I didn't want to watch Die Hard for a long time because of the age certificate and the violence, not really one for violence, but then I watched the Matrix trilogy and it came on television, I recorded it and watched it one evening, and was - laughing out loud!
My favourite bit is when Mrs Mclaine asks for help and he asks, what idiot put you in charge? and she replies, you did right after you shot my boss! The way he looks at her is amazing! I also love the bit when he's reading the jumper, I have a gun now ho! ho! ho!
I got the trilogy box set on DVD now still haven't got round to the third, perhaps I'll watch it tonight, Jeremy Irons was interviewed on Andrew Marr yesterday morning and I have been wanting to watch it for a while now!

And you should definitely watch the third Die Hard . . . if you managed to sit through the second one - you deserve a little treat. And Jeremy Irons is good in it (as he is in everything he does!).

For a very long time I did not see this movie and didn't really expect to like it. When I found out that AR was in it I decided to give it a shot. It turned out to be better than I thought it would be. It isn't my favorite movie in the world, but I did like it rather well.
I know that I'm not the only one who didn't like Hans's exit from the film. But, apart from being the death of another great AR character, I just found it a little dissatisfying. I just found myself thinking when I saw it: O.K. the people making this movie has planned everything down to the smallest detail, tied everything up in a nice little package, but the best way they could think of to deal with the main villain was drop him out a window?! It just gives me the idea that the writer was just getting tired of dealing with Hans and decided to get him out of the movie as quick as possible.
