He was great in this role. A good move in picking this as his 1st Hollywood role.
It's so awesome how when he walks out of the elevator and he's so cool and clam. He was a pro.

I love this movie. Sure, the plot gets a little thin. Sure some of the other actors weren't the best. And sure, I hated the fact that evil (Mr. Cowboy) triumphed over good (Hans). Plus there were explosions! (and to plug my LiveJournal a bit, last year I wrote up a review for Die Hard. It's not the best, but I'm on topic!)

As for Alan as Hans,oh my lord, when he comes out of the truck and walks,I just cant stop looking in awe,he is just flamming wicked in this film, and so flamming sexy.... "Leo,I give you the FBI"....I want Hans on toast please...

"Leo,I give you the FBI".... I just *love* that line. The way he draws out FBI so that it is, "F...B...I..." thud

It's funny because I first saw this movie in Germany and so totally missed all the beautiful nuances of Alan's voice. . . dubbing should be outlawed! When I finally saw it in the States, it was like, 'who's this now?' The man's amazing without even speaking, but 'The Voice' and his delivery . . . wow - makes all the difference in the world, doesn't it?

I just watched this again last weekend . . . and I really love when he's falling off the tower . . . such an amazed look on his face. Reading the commentary on the DVD, it turns out the director fooled him into thinking they were going to release him on '3', but then did it on '1' so that they could get his reaction on film. It worked! I also work right across from the building where this was filmed (Fox tower) . . . so I think about 'Hans' everytime I go up to the 14th floor and see the tower. . . (as if I need another excuse to think about AR!) ;D

It seems I have been in a fog regarding good Alan-movies. I saw this one, too, for the first time yesterday evening! Good action piece, although they could have toned down the swearing a bit. Alan stole the show, as usual. All those Hollywood Hunks must be depressed to notice that whenever they play opposite Alan as the villain, the reviewers and the audience want to ride to the sunset with the baddie and leave the shiny hero behind

The other night I had a weird dream involving Alan and Die Hard.
I guess I went back in time or something (so many of my dreams begin with that phrase), and I was talking to Alan just after Die Hard was released in theaters. Alan and I was talking about Hans' motivation and traits and blah blah blah. And then at the end of my dream he invited me for coffee.
And then I woke up.
(and had the urge to watch Die Hard)

I got my Special Edition "Die Hard" today. Did anyone else notice that there are quite a few comments from Alan in the text commentary? I'm not used to having Alan on commentary tracks, so it was nice. Too bad it is not an audio commentary, his voice would have been a very welcome addition

One of his best roles IMO. I voted this my favorite in the movie poles (although I don't think I posted it in the thread after voting- oops). I can't tell you how many times I've watched this one. Oh, and his American accent , not bad during that short scene!

As I said in the poll thread, this movie has everything that I like: Alan and explosions (I'm easily entertained, yet have sophisticated tastes). It's just a fun movie (well, up until the end, then it becomes one of the greatest tragedies of our time).

Reading the commentary on the DVD, it turns out the director fooled him into thinking they were going to release him on '3', but then did it on '1' so that they could get his reaction on film. It worked! They also said that they did this several times and sorta coerced him to do the stunt himself because the stunt guys absolutely will not do a backwards fall from a height. They don't like not seeing where they are going. So they got AR to do this himself. Of course, that trick of letting him go early got the desired results (the surprised look...and who can blame him) but I think the commentary said his back was hurting him and it took a bit of time to get him to go do it several times. Thought that was pretty mean if you ask me.

Ladies, I have some good news. Tonight, Hans Gruber will be invading both the Nakatomi Tower and my television screen. I have purchased Die Hard on DVD while I was out of the house! I'll tell you more about what I thought about it tomorrow (or later tonight after I'm done with the flick). Editing to add that I have finished watching the movie about an hour and a half ago (around 8pm EST). Now, this was an exceptional movie, and I don't think it could have been better. I think I'm one of the only people who has a passion for Alan's American accent. He truly nailed it when he finally met up with McClane. And to think it sent shivers down my spine. (Not just that part, but the whole movie.) Will I watch it again? You can certainly count on it. Just a fine piece of work.

I think I'm one of the only people who has a passion for Alan's American accent. There is something about Hans.. he could be speaking in clicks and grunts and it wouldn't matter
