Another pick-me-up Alan movie! I found the whole thing to be very cute, but it could have been better. Still, it's worth watching and I think you'll enjoy Phil Allen's many close ups. *hums Good Morning Starshine. The earth says hello!*

Hmmmmm, i wasn't sure of this film. It was ok but i found it i bit boring at times and there was not enough Alan in it for my liking. What did they do to his beautiful voice! I hated the accent on him it just ruined his voice. I may watch it again because sometimes i like films better after the second watch. Film rating i give 3.5/5 Alan rating 4/5. The Tatoo on his foot did make me laugh though

Bill Nighy gave a great performance too- the hair! ;D I liked Alan's accent, which I can't say for Josh Hartnett's! There's something I love about a yorkshire accent; I'd love Alan to say "by 'eck lass, lets 'av a brew" to me ;D (I can translate that if required for those non-brits!)

This movie grew on me after the second time I watched it. I thought it was a fun little film. It's not The Bestest Movie Ever, but it's a good movie if you need some mindless entertainment for a couple of hours...

When I first watched it, I thought this is a okay movie, but I don't think I'll watch soon. But there I was watching it the next day, thinking this is much better than yesterday.

I finally got to see this movie today, and I really liked it, actually. I think the plot line just really appealed to me, for some reason. I like movies about competitions. Don't know why. I thought Alan was really good in it, but they could've shown him more.
I'm glad I found this site!

My fave line in it is when he say.

Funny! Can you imagine Snape saying that?

That is so funny, Snape speaking like that that would amuse me no end. I hated the accent in BD, in-fact i don't like any accents on Alan i just love his natural British (come on Britannia!) voice which i drool to. Aye it is me arry who is the alf blood prince, ha!

I just watched this for the first time the other day, and I liked it. My goodness, the tattoo on his foot made me smile. I'm so ticklish that when I see it, it makes my own foot twitch I rather liked his accent (not nearly as mush as I like his natural way of speaking, of course); and it's nice to see him play all sorts of characters.

Actually Winky22 Snape is actually a N Yorkshire word for Bogland, Poor Pasture, Winter Pasture, so not a v nice meaning! So he could come from Yorkshire, just v well spoken1! Anyways I watched this film AGAIN! Last night, as I wanted an Alan fix, and a Bill Nighy fix, Love Actually is too long (esp at 1000pm) I was laughing myself silly! It gets better the more you watch it! ;D

I just saw this movie; finished a few minutes ago. I thought it was great! It was so sad though. I cried in some parts. But it had its funny moments. And I loved the cast. Two thumbs up from me! LOL

Saw this one for the first time last night. Not as funny as I was expecting, and not nearly enough Alan! But, I did like it - and it did have a nice story. I actually really liked Alan's accent in it - and I laughed at the golden scissors and the foot tattoo!
The scene where he's in outside talking to his wife's girlfriend - the expressions that cross his face - so amazing! He really has hardly any lines in this movie - but his face does all the acting!
I do so wish they'd concentrated on the Phil/Shelley relationship and left the young son and his love interest out of it completely, though - boring!

I Just finished watching it for the second time...and I've only just realized...I haven't yet posted in this thread...hum...strange! Oh man...I really liked this movie. It was so sad, but the ending made me happy! I didn't notice an accent *looks confused*! Is it a 'different' British accent or something? Was it perhaps one an American, like myself, wouldn't quite hear properly? I loved it, whatever it was, because he sounded absolutely magnificent to me ! I loved Alan's performance in this film !

I loved the accent, it's one I tried to develop for stage in high school and never could quite get. This is a movie that grows on you. It's mine and my daughters favorite (she's 9) It's always a fight which Alan movie we get to watch but this usualy wins out. (my boys prefer die hard for the eldest and hitchhikers or harry potter for the youngest)

I found myself on Amazon one night ordering this DVD. I didn't mean to, it just sort of happened. Am I glad I did. I absolutely love this movie. At first it seemed just about a hair competition, but there was really so much more to it. It was about Shelly trying to "sort it all out" before she dies. Trying to make them a family so that they will be able to stick together through her illness and the grieving process. I particularly loved the scene after Shelly tells Phil that's what she wants and he finally understands. Then he has what appears to be the first real conversation about the what happened 10 years ago with his son. Everything's okay between them though because Brian offers to fix some toast, and Phil gets that message, too. Ta, lad. Toast'd be grand.

Am I blind or I really haven't left a post here... ::)Strange. I liked the film very much. The heart of the story was phil's relationship with his ill wife and her girlfriend. Alan played a kind of a guy I love. He didn't have many lines to show off his brilliance but he did it using his face -like somebody before me said. What annoyed me a bit was his son (I don't like the actor, his cheesy face gets on my nerves) and the daughter of the 'bad' hairdresser.

What annoyed me a bit was his son (I don't like the actor, his cheesy face gets on my nerves) and the daughter of the 'bad' hairdresser. I agree. The romantic focus was the young couple and they are featured on the cover of the DVD. But there was no romance to justify them appearing on the cover. Just youth. That whole story was annoying and pointless and I partiularly didn't like Rachel Leigh-Cook. The real story was Phil and Shelly and Sandra and I'd even throw in Daisy. She was the catalyst that gave Shelly the courage to do what she had to do.
