I thought Josh Hartnett was brilliant, for an american to perfect the yorkshire accent like that was brilliant, and proves his worth as an actor. Well said Hermoine13snape! Josh does do a great job.

I don't know what a Yorkshire accent is supposed to sound like, but Josh certainly sounded like the other actors. I have to assume he got it right. As a matter of fact, when I looked him up on IMDB, I was surprised to find he's from Minneapolis.

I was surprised to find out he was american when I watched the interviews on the DVD. Great they are, I love them to bits and always watch the interviews when I finish the film, and the way Alan talks about it you could tell he really enjoyed that role, I'd love to see him play more of those sort of good guy got hurt but trying to recover roles.
He said about the taking off the shoes and socks that he had asked real champions how to do it professionally and that was a tip they gave to him, so that idea was completely incorporated through Alans own research. I wonder if the tattoo was his idea as well.
Like I said I watch this one a lot and to think I wanted to avoid it when I read the story line. Glad I didn't!

It really is one of my new fave AR movies...there is just something about the overall feel to it that I love. I think maybe it is that all of the actors had a great chemistry going on.
And Josh Hartnett was great!! I knew he was American but still...the accent to me was believable and to be able to hold your own with AR....good in my book.

I was surprised to find out JH was American. He really did a good job with the accent. Alan had many memorable moments in this movie. I loved the way he kept needling Bill Nighy.

Yeah so did I!
Come on people it was hilarious when he got Bill Nighy in a sweat when he worked out who had sabotaged the combs and bringing up a former championship when something similar happened, although if Bill's character hadn't tried to cheat then Alan would never have got back into the game, so it was Bill's own fault he lost!
By the way over on the Dark Mark I have written a one shot continuation of what happened to Phil and Sandra after Shelley had died, it's PG rated.

I liked Blow Dry becasue of the way it has plots within plots and the subject matter of Shelley and Phil was thoughtfully well handled. Josh Hartnett did an excellent job with the accent and playing the misunderstood son, and my favorite scene is when Sandra walks out on stage and gloriously unfolds that golden cape. She looked stunning and Alan couldn't have been more attractive - I love his hair in this film.

I purchased this movie at the movie store that is going out of business at the mall. It was on sale and the only Alan Rickman movie they had!! I asked the lady behind the counter, who was old enough to be my mom, if they had anymore and she didn't know who he was! Anyway, I loved this film The storyline was great and the chemistry among the actors was brilliant. I didnt even know Josh was American. He definitely had the accent down. Alan's performance was excellent as always. I believe he chooses his roles wisely. I have yet to see a performance I didn't like!

well mugglemichelle - there I have no chance: I had to hear another German voice , but it did not disturb so much, that I would not see this movie again ... ;D (and again, and again, and...... ;D ) oh, I've forgotten: besides a wonderful Alan in the whole movie, the scene I liked the most: a lot of crazy coloured sheeps .. ;D , they really looked very nice ...

Aww you missed a treat, gela. Sorry, didn't realise the german thing, even with you saying about the football etc.
Alan looks like a good hairdresser though, he can ruffle my hair any day ;D

@ mugglemichelle what do the letters Aww mean? I've seen them already, but don't know, what that means. And I could need help in mathematics: Sandra became Phil's model, when Shelly got Brian. Sandra is 29. They had left Phil ten years ago, so she was 19, when she became the model. But then, Brian could not be older than 10 years. Or Brian is perhaps 19 - than Sandra had become model, when she was 10 years old That does not really fit - or where is the mistake in my thoughts?

Haven't watched this movie in a while, so I decided to relieve the boredom of cable and popped it in. Have to say it remains one of my favorite Alan movies.
