Winky22 - I'm sorry but I HATE BLACK! got that fine. So I will be horrible to him as he was horrible to Snape. I am glad Black is dead and didn't do much in the books other than get on my nerves and deliver hypocritical advise to Harry! I was bullied by Sirius types when I was at school so I'm hardly gonna like that - that - Ken Doll wannabe with no charisma! And why should I bless him? He never showed any mercy to Snape, he tried to murder Snape! And you tell us to leave him alone? Are you or are you not a Snape fan?
Squirrleywrath - I am gonna have to second Billywiggy on that one! I'd have loved that line in the book, can you imagine Bellatrix using it?

There is nothing wrong with him, what would you be like if you had been stuck in Azkaban for 13 years for something you didn't do? I love the tension between Sirius and Snape i enjoy reading it and are we forgetting who we are speaking about this is Snape here, ex DE! I can only imagine what he has done. I like Snape's character i really do but he is hardly innocent and has done a lot more bad things than sirius! I find it very funny that you hate Sirius so much that you put it in caps after all he is only a character in a book. Just because so many people in the book like Black doesn't mean to say that I have to, so many girls go all weak kneed at Blonde Pratt but I can't stand him much either!
I love Snape so much so that I hate Black! You could say I siriusly can't stand him and like I said I was bullied by people like Black so I am not going to warm to him! And yes I do thank Jo for killing him! This is a poem I wrote about my school experiences that thanks to Black and Potter types made my life a living hell! And almost ten years on I am left with no self confidence whatsoever, I am still scared of waking up on the weekday mornings to because of Black and Potter types, and I have little to no trust in strangers as I am scared I am going to be hated by them, if anything Snape and I do have a lot in common!
You obviously were not the one who ran to a corner to hide.
You obviously were not the one who sank and cried.
You obviously were not the one who felt little and worthless.
You obviously were not ever lonely and friendless.
You obviously were not the one who laid in bed and asked why me?
You obviously were not the one that wept constantly.
You obviously were not the one who dreaded school each day.
You obviously were not the one whom all the kids would say 'There goes him! There goes the freak! There goes the circus clown! There goes the geek! Let's pull his hair! Let's make fun of his physique! Let's pull him down as far as he can go! We're handsome. We're popular! The teachers will never know!
Besides they like us and would never punish us! They like us! They don't like him! Who would!'
All you have to do is change the him to her and he to she and that is my experience's. So no I don't have any sympathy at all with Black! It is also the fact that everyone in the books don't like Snape that makes me go with him so much. I genuinely cheered when Black died, especially after what he did to Snape in the Worst Memory.
So Snape is a Death Eater. Perhaps if he weren't treated the way he had been all his life then he might not have been, yes he'd have still been nasty but in a more Rufus Scrimgeour type way rather than the way he became. At least there is a heartbreaking reason as to the reason why Snape acts the way he does, but I see no reason as to the heartless bullying that Black gave to Severus.
Nakomis Snape with you there!

I'm with hermione on this one. I too was abused by classmates in school. I had the black greasy hair, larger nose, glasses, am overweight....what not to pick on?? I was spit on, drawn on (people would sit behind me and draw on the back of my shirts), pushed down flights of stairs (I still have a lump on my forhead from that). I sympathize with Snape. My dad was also verbally abusive to me on a daily basis (called me the b-word and told me I was useless and an accident). So yeah...I know what Sev is going through. I would join the death eaters too. I actually consider myself a death eater. They have power, money and man-candy...what's not to love? Besides, I'd kill a b for Tom Riddle

It's my first message.. I was looking through this topic now, it's rather interesting and strange at the same time to watch such emotion of an indignation as that one was expressed in some messages here. I even decided to register and to recall my English I haven't spoken for ages. Excuse me for my mistakes, please! I like Snape because I understand him. I sympathize with Black because I understand him too. I agree with winky 22: "There is nothing wrong with him, what would you be like if you had been stuck in Azkaban for 13 years for something you didn't do? " Snape wasn't be able to forget evil tricks that James and Sirius had done with him in their childhood, but the way of hatred is not the best way. It destroys a soul little by little, brings a lot of problems to a health, the world seems terrible, full of injustice and so on. However, on the other hand the world is always wonderful. If we think we are luckless o ill-fated, naturally, the world doesn't seem so beautiful o wonderful. I'm sure we don't see it only by our eyes, but also by our feelings, by our soul... It's always possible to change a point of view. And also to change something in the life, for example, to wash own head. And to forgive our offenders. Such character as Severus Snape is very sensible, vulnerable and ambitiuos, proud. So we love him, his nature has a lot of various nuances and it' impossible to say he is only a bad character. Most probably, complicated. However, all the characters of Rowling's books are not simple that's why they are real. Who knows what is hided in the labyrinths of Snape's soul? There is a huge space to make a million of fantasies on this subject here. (Heh, it's an idea for a new topic!) And Black..Black has problems. But he is a good guy, I agree with winky once again. It is not quite seriously to hate any character if you don't like it.

Sorry no Black! Yee-ha! I was the freak at school, at home, and at work, for most of my life the pretty popular pipsqueaks like Black and Potter made my life a living torturous struggle, Black is DEAD get over it! Like Elvis he was a waste of space! I feel nothing for Black it seemed his parents would have cared for him if he did not do what he did! He was good looking (in some peoples opinion but not mine!) he was rich, and he treated people who weren't his equals in looks (like Snape) or in status (like Kreacher) like dirt! I have no sympathy for Black to me him and Draco are very similar! No Rainbow the world is not a wonderful place, it is an awful place, full of hatred, mistrust, wars, violence, bloodshed. Every time we switch on the tele be it the news, or some drama, it is full of sex and violence Happy Slapping goes on, people in certain neighbourhoods are too scared to walk out their doors because of teen gangs hanging around making their lives heck! Greed and corruption are rife. The only thing wonderful about this world are my parents and my religion, but we have to be realistic. Nakomis that was sad, I didn't get my dad calling me names when I was a child but my older sister and my girl cousins always called me an alien making me feel like I didn't belong, and my older sister looks like Black. My dad didn't exactly step in and stop it, it was my mother, my dad kind of let my sister get away with everything. My sister and I get on better now we're older, and like Sirius and Regulas, my older sister departed of her own choice our religion, and I like Regulas stayed with his Slytherin roots, I stayed to my religion, so we do have that odd strange mirror, truth is stranger than fiction! Rainbow and Winky I did try on my second reread of books 3 to 5 to like him but I couldn't I honestly couldn't all I kept think of when I read him was that in a certain point in book 5 he's going to treat my favourite character like dirt! And I know that if Black was real he would not like me! Types like him never do. I can't sympathise with a character that would not like me if he were real. I thought I better give you a list of my favourite characters, just to show you that I don't hate all the good guys! 1) Hermione Granger (we have a lot in common 2) Severus Snape (ditto above ) 3) Remus Lupin (I felt like a freak as did he and come on you have to question why he didn't want to tell his supposed 'best friends' what he was! They couldn't have been that good! ) 4) Ginny Weasley (bit of girl power in a fun way, bat bogey! ) 5) Harry Potter (not like James whatsoever! He's more like his mother it's just that everyone looks at his stature more and the eyes are the last thing they notice! ) 6) Albus Dumbledore (poor man! I do hope he hasn't gone forever! Like in the painting, Snape hasn't murdered him completely! ) 7) Lily Evans (for the life of me I can't understand why she went for James! ) 8) James Potter (he! he! Bet that surprised you! Only for saving Severus Snape's life, and I am not so mean as to think that he had genuine reasons of kindness and nobility doing that! ) 9) Nymphadora Tonks (so happy that her and Remus are together but we don't know enough about her to make her go further yet! ;D) 10) Bellatrix le Strange (apart from Tonks the only Black I do like in the story for killing Sirius and for being totally evil in a really cool way. I can't wait to see OotP the movie and see her in there! Especially the killing scene! It'll be like revenge for me! ) The characters I hate the most: 1) Black! (why were you not surprised! ) 2) Ronald Weasley (I had to live with a big family, and have lots of second hand clothes, but I just worn them, one of the other reasons why I was bullied, so as an adult I will only wear new clothes! Not because I don't like contributing to charity it's just the memorys! ) 3) Lord Voldemort (he has to be there somewhere in the hated list although he's honoury number 3 on my characters I like list! ) 4) Draco Malfoy (for being a slime! ) 5) Bill Weasley and Fleur De La Couer (for being too good looking scar them please permanently in place where everybody can see! It's interesting to note that the actress who played Fleur said in Empire she hated the character herself because she hated those types at school! ) 6) Lucious - I mean sorry - Lucius Malfoy (he tried to kill favourite characters number 1, 4, and 5 ) 7) Umbridge (for attempting the Crucio on a child and for trying to feed Harry Veritaserum, yay for fake stores, yay for Snape! ) 8) Fenrir Greyback (creepy nasty Werewolf, once bitten from him definitely twice shy! ) 9) Narcissa Malfoy (for making Snape turn back to the Dark Side with that nasty vow kill the b*tch! ;D) 10) Percy Weasley (the way he treated Molly and Arthur was completely unforgivable! ) There you have it! So I am not totally against the good guys it's just Black! Black represents all that is evil to me. Have you two ever read Frankenstein? The monster he creates reminds me of Snape, he is created but is ugly! Ugly on the outside but on the inside he had a nice personality, he helped a poor hardworking family undercover who had a blind father, when they discovered who was helping them, the pretty beautiful family beat him up to a pulp, hid their son away and locked the house! Without giving the poor thing chance to explain! He found his makers name and went to where he lived, and there exacted revenge. If you haven't read it I suggest you do. Because when I read it I at felt more for the Monster than I did for any of the characters. He didn't ask to be made. The same with Snape, I am sure if he had a choice he'd rather not be born than have the life he had! But what really gets me about Black is, yeah he spent all those years in Azkaban, but he didn't have to, he could have changed into a dog (oh by the way did I mention my biggest fear are big black dogs, having been bitten by an Alsation as a child, it drew blood and made me scarred for months, I couldn't hide it either as it was on my jaw) so that is another reason why I don't like him, as I say Black represents all that is evil to me. Why didn't he do it years earlier? If you don't like that then if I get published don't read any of my books, it's the Black types that aren't nice! To me the world ain't wonderful because I have only been happy, truly happy for six months of my life, when I fell in love with a boy that actually loved me back, but there is a tragedy as we couldn't act on our feelings, difference of beliefs! But most of my life I've been unhappy and miserable, because of Black types, so I am not going to forgive him or like him whatsoever, if Jo wanted me to like Black she should have given him Snape's looks, Snape's past but made him a Ravenclaw or something, so that he wouldn't have turned out too evil but bad enough for me to like him. Note to future authors - for me to like a guy make him wear black, have black cloaks or robes, make him slightly nasty, don't make him well liked or popular, and definitely don't make him look like Mr Barbie! To me beauty is evil. Oh by the Nakomis a Karma point for you for being so heartbreakingly honest!

Hermione13snape, why do you think you are the one who was the freak at school? You know, I can't say I was so beautiful in my teens, some of my classmates were doing evil things to me. But someday I decided to change myself, from my views on life to my appearance. I change my hair-do and my clothes and believe me, I did it not for others, I did it for me. It's normally when you begin to feel as a woman. But it's very important to remember, they are not clothes you make feel so, it's a state of soul, I believe. If you think you are the freak, everybody will think it about you. However, it seems you exaggerate, I can't believe you are really the freak. No, no, I don't believe! You are too severe to yourself, what does this self-hatred serve for? And then... You told you have met a love. It's wonderful, isn't it? If the love esists yet, the world isn't awful. I'd say there are a lot of awful things we can see everywhere: on the TV, in a street and so on. But the world is wonderful all the same, I'm sure in it. And I assert it after having a lot of troubles in my life. I had a great misfortune, there was a time when I thought about the cruelty of this world... Now I don't think so. You are right in your post telling about these horrors, but why do you see only Evil? There are some charity organizations, many kind and honest people who helps to others. At last we have our children (I speak in general, not about myself) they are our future, what must we tell them about our life? I think it's very important to have a belief: belief in love, in God, in own efforts to change something in our life... A man is weak without belief and love. And..coming back to Snape I think he needs them. And when we have love in our heart, then we are able to forgive. I have forgiven some persons from my past and you know, after having done it I have felt so good! I am not in touch with them, how they are, it's not interesting for me, but all the offences have gone away from my heart. That episode from book 5 where Rowling describes a scene of a mockery at Snape, is disgusting. I don't justify Black and Potter, it wasn't neither original nor clever trick. But it doesn't mean Potter and Black are bad o evil. As I said, all the characters are complicated in J.Rowling's books, it is not interesting to read about only good o only evil characters, they have changes from book to book and we know new details of their lives. If Black was not be able to get over his hatred to Snape, it is not a cause to think he was a personification of evil, he had problems, but at the same time he was ready to do good. Snape had to forgive him and James. And Sirius could beg pardon from Severus. Heh, what should we read about then? It's very sad to see how a psychological trauma got in childhood continues to create problems in an adult age... And I have read Frankenstein. I think, your nature is very sensible. But the world isn't black and white, it has different colours.

A bully is a coward, therefore,Black,Potter and Pettegrew were those,I dont really count Lupin as one as such, but he was there, and instead of saying how wrong they were,he kept quite,so,I guess he too was just as much a coward as his fellow schoolmates.. As for Snape, well, yes,we all know what he has done,we all know that he did wrong, but I strongly feel that he has redemed himself and after reading the last book,I STILL think that he is still loyal to Dumbledore, and I am sure that you guys will give me hell if he is not...LOL But,honestly,if I was bullied like Snape was at school, and trust me,I got my fair share,I would have done my best to get back at them,at any cost,I know that you should always be better than them, but sometimes, and even in the "fantasy world of fiction",somethings are just too hard to ignore...

Hermione13snape, I tell you a hackneyed thing but I'm sure the freaks don't esist in the world. However, there are people which want to believe they are the freaks and make the others think so. It is their firm belief to be ugly or non sympathetic. And what's wrong with you? I've not seen you but I continue to believe you are exaggerating. You should love all your merits and your demerits and at the same time it's always possible to change something in your appearance. What are you thinking about when you look at yourself? Havn't you try to say to your reflection in the mirror that you are very nice girl with a very tender and sensible heart (and it's so, I see)? The beauty is not only a body. If anyone doesn't see your soul, it's not your problem, but if you have a self-hatred then..I don't think it makes you happy... The inferiority complex always causes anger and depression. Look at the sun, it shines for everybody, gives off its energy for all our planet because couldn't do in another way. I think the soul of any man would be like a sun. You know, our enemies are always our friends because they make us be able to understand ourselves better. They show us all our weak points... Does anyone make you hurt? Do you feel angry? Then use your anger to change yourself, to change something in your life to prove you are strong, but do it only for yourself, without a wish to prove anything for anyone. It's very important to find a harmony, then you will always have a peaceful harbour in your soul where you'll find a rest and.. may be, answers to your questions. The anger is a energy but there is a power which is stronger. It's love. James Potter and Ko have shown Snape's weak points and also thier own ones. But it seems strange they behave (Black and Snape) as those teen-agers as they were many years ago... I think, everyone of adults keeps a child within himself.. with all the same problems from childhood. On the one hand it's very important to keep childish innocence and spontaneity within the heart, on the other hand, we often bring in ourselves that pain we felt when we were children. Everyone wants to love and to be loved.. But I'm quite sure if you can love without any expectations and claims you are the happiest person... It's possible to forgive everything. Even if you are a victim. If one's heart is ready to do it... Certainly, following a logic Sirius was the one that shoud have been beggining forgiveness of Severus, but he was as proud as Snape was. Someone of them had to do a first step to making peace. But it's clear, it couldn't happen, the both characters are very nervous. Heh, it seems I do a Black's defender just as I like Snape too. But it would be injustly to say only unpleasant things about Sirius, for example, Pettigrew is more antipathetic. And why don't you like Fleur De La Couer? She have not left Bill in Book 6 after the werewolf's bites as far as I remember. I've already understand you are Goth.. heh.. There is a dark romance in it, but you know, I am a pessimist too that's why I pretend to be a great optimist. I believe we always chose by ourselves what to do in our life, what to think and how to see the world and the people. Who knows, may be one day you will change your opinion and will wish to see non only grey shades, but also all the colours of the day. Perhaps, it is said by a painter who lives in me, but I like to do experiments with colours, although also I like black and white grafics very much. And.. if you are Goth, it's not a reason to not love a beautiful, may be, light-minded a little, persons. I didn't like Fleur when I was reading Book 4, but Jo has made a little surprise in Book 6. All the characters are not simple, perhaps only Voldemort is a perfect villain. In rest I agree with you, Severus is good underneath and I find him more interesting than Black (but it's not any reason to hate him). In many respects thanks to Rickman, will Snape be so attractive for us with another actor in this part?

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look Rainbow get off cloud nine will ya!
No I don't think I am worthy to be liked or loved because of school playground bullying that the pretty popular sporty types like Potter and Black subjected me through all my life everywhere! I have never fitted in, and yes there are freaks in the world, people bullied because they have the wrong hair, or nose, or the wrong shaped face, because they belong to a religion or stuff like that, there are people who treat others like scum because they exist!
I am not exaggerating it is true, you weren't there I was! I heard comments flung at me all my life by Potter and Black types like, you're pretty, (the hope). And a comeback going, yeah pretty ugly!
One girl even said within my hearing.
"I hate her!"
With her friend going.
"Yeah so do I!" Her friend was even of the same religion as me! Can you imagine how THAT hurt!
A boy said to me.
"Why don't you write right handed like normal people? I think they should force people to be right handed like they did in the olden days."
In the olden days I'd have been burnt at the stake for being a Witch because I am unmarried, I am left handed and I love cats! I am a freak now, I would have been a freak then.
No there is nothing I can change about myself to make me feel better because I don't! Were you ever bullied Rainbow? It's victimization the same as other horrendous things, yet I don't here people tell someone who had attempted murder say "oh get over it the world is a wonderful place what are you harping on about!" "Oh I am sure there is good in him he has his problems too!" No they don't because strangely enough people understand that he is the victim, yet people who have been severely bullied at school are told to do just that and it really, really annoys me! Because it's not like that to us!
I am a realist Rainbow! To me the glass is Half empty. Because I tried the half full philosophy but life for me just got worse!
I hate Fleur because again like with Black she reminds me of the pretty popular girls who went out with the dumbwitted sporty popular pipsqueaks who made my life a living heck at school and made me feel even uglier than ever.
Have you been in the what do you look like thread on this forum yet? I have described myself there. Can't give a photo because I hate my picture being taken because I hate looking at myself because I think I am ugly and anyone who says otherwise is just trying to be kind.
I will say it one more time HOPEFULLY you'll finally get it through to you.
NO SELF CONFIDENCE! Life is not my best friend okay! If I have to say it one more time then I think you need one big large, reality cheque!

I find it very funny that you hate Sirius so much that you put it in caps after all he is only a character in a book. Hate is a very strong word especially when he is a good guy, how many people hate Sirius in the book, not many. How many people hate Snape, alot. Snape is not innocent. I agree, Snape is not innocent. No one is really 100% innocent. We all have done things we're not proud of. That goes for Snape aswell as Sirius. hermione_snape, I do understand where you're coming from. But it's not healthy to go around and be angry and hate. Bullying is a BIG problem in our schools. I hardly believe anyone exaggerating when it comes to bullying. Kids can be cruel. Kids are capable of ruining lives. BUT, it's importent to remember that most bully's do have problems themselves. In my education (as a special ed teacher) I have read a lot about bullying. Dan Olweus, has a programe aimed to put focus on bullying. He had found in his research, that there is nothing "special" about the person who gets bullied. The reasons we like to think of (like weight, glasses, funny nose, ect) are only random reasons. They aren't the issue at all. Just random "reasons" as to why a person gets bullied. We still don't know WHY kids are selected as victims. As for Sirius, I believe that he is sorry for the way he treated Snape and others that he bullied. He had to work on his guilt. Snape on the other hand has to work on his hate and bitterness. He has to forgive the bullies. If he doesn't, he'll ruin his life.

Good post there Legally Blonde...usually the bullies are that way for a reason...I am not saying that makes it right at all. And yes, kids can and will be cruel...but I have to say here, that it is unfair to blame things on the "popular" kids...I was one of those people, and I had friends who were goth, (though then it was not called goth really) and they in turn shunned me because I was hanging out with other, "cooler" people, when really I did not understand why we could not all be friends. I was a "pretty popular girl who went out with the dumbwitted popular pipsqueaks" and I never made anyone's life miserable. I think the way you are generalizing and stereotyping is unfair and unhealthy. So really, it is unfair...you do not know the other persons situation until you are standing in their shoes, we all have had our share of problems.
I have to say that is one thing that is great about these books, yes they are all just characters, but they are so real in our minds that we get passionate and emotional about them, we get to talking and thinking which is wonderful IMO.
I too, dislike Sirius as a character, and I do not like James either yet I adore Lupin, who was no better than the rest in his silence. Snape is my favorite character in the book by far and I identify with him only because he seems so real, so human to me. The only other character to me that seems to go through the whole gammut is Harry, and look at how much alike those two really are in the end.
Oh and Legally Blonde...a karma point fro me to you for being in the special ed field...there are not enough people in the world who are willing to enter such a field and they certainly are not given enough credit, no teachers are.

Hermione13snape, I understand what you try to explain. But it's only a point of view. Naturally, the world is full of such persons as Black and Potter and what?? They may think and say all they want, but it's important what you think about yourself. And you don't know what things I've heard about me. Should I worry of it? They were telling you a foolishness and you had not to pay attention on those words. I was bullied by some of my classmates and I was suffering much because if you feel as an exile, an outsider in your teens, it hurts. I agree with you. But then I thought I wasn't a dollar to make everybody like me. If I could tell you about my life.. This story would be very sad in some moments.. But it's not a reason to cast down. There was a time when I was thinking as you and was telling the same things, believe me. What is a realism? It's only a point of view also... The world is dark and cruel in your eyes. And it's your right to think so. But don't you want to do anything to make the world better? (I don't mean to kill Potter and Black types like May be, it will make you happier if only you don't think it's vain. Children can be very cruel sometimes, I know it. But they can change when they become the adults. I don't speak about everybody, there are many mean people in the world, but it should not forget about the kind one... And in any case I wish you all the best. I continue to believe you shouldn't be so severe on yourself and on the others.. well..I'd like to ask you to show me your foto.. But I don't want you think that I try to be kind with you. I always tell what I have in my mind. 2moderator: excuse me for off-topic. It seems another subject.

Right!!!!! Enough is enough now i'm sick of it apart from being very off topic for the last lot of posts we are also getting ourself wound up on this subject!
HermioneSnape: You can not hate characters for stupid reason just because they you remind you of people who was horrible at school get over it! I did!
I am not a bully i was bullied and had no covidence at one point of my life but i have now and you know why? Because i made myself! I got a job working with people who i love and i work with customers who are pains but i can deal with them now as i wouldn't have done when i was down. You can not judge a book by its cover. Those people who hurt you probably regreat it now! they are the fools not you but if you still let it get to you then i am sorry but you are a fool too.
If you forget about it and plan your life then everything will be clearer, i know!
Listen, learn, live
Now i am no Mod but i think if anyone wants to continue this subject the we should do it in the lets talk about anything thread as we are suposed to be on about OotP here and we have definaly gone off subject!
Big smiles ;D ;D everyone
