I thought I'd better start a thread dedicated to talking about Deathly Hallows, since shortly we won't be speculating but quoting from the book!
FOR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT WANT TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE NEW BOOK, PLEASE READ NO FURTHER! Perhaps we should limit chatting in this thread until you have read the whole book, or else mark the start of your post " This post contains information about chapter 7 onwards" or something like that, just so no one reads something they'd rather not.Thank you

"This post contains information about chapter 7 onwards in HP and the Deathly Hallows... Spoilers Definite Beware!!!!!" - ! - ! - ! - ! I have just finished the book, when my sister said the last word I stared at the books cover, saddened that that was the end, confused that JK could leave it with the words, "All was well..." (which made me slightly hysterical...) devastated she could do something like she did to Severus, I loved him, love him. I don't know what to do now that the book is done, there will be the movies but after that, after that nothing, no more Harry Potter, no more of his life or his friends lives, absolute nothingness. It was confusing and my mum has started to read it now, I'm not willing to believe its over. Not willing to believe JK did such a dreadful thing to Severus. I guess I'm a whole bundle of emotions which I need to express somehow without spoiling things for everyone... I hated spoilers, my sister, her friend and I all got spoiled in different ways, so ever since the spoiling and getting the book we didn't even touch the computer, turned the radios off, and when watching tv if the name harry potter came up we raised our fingers to our ears to stop any more spoilers leaking into our ears. This is why I said spoilers in this I didn't want to ruin it for anybody, not that I'm sure how I feel about the book DH. Well that's all for now, if anybody else has read it please send me a message in private so we can discuss what we thought about it... thanks... Waffleookies! (To Severus Snape, a noble and brave man who I loved dearly, you're death is horrible but we shall remember you forever for your wish to help Harry and the bravery of continuing being a spy even at all great costs. For the greater good, you Severus are the greater good to me. Rest in peace my dear kindred soul!)

I am thoroughly heart-broken....that's all I have to say Definite Spoiler ... go no further unless you've finished the book. But the last thing he saw was Lily's eyes. I'm still shaken ... and vindicated.

SPOILERS READ NOT FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ ALL THE BOOK! Am I the only one not traumatised by Snape's death? I can't say I was pleased with his demise, I was saddened he died but what he had been doing for 17 years filled me with pride! Like Harry said to Albus Severus (I thought that was a fabulous way to mark Harry's new found respect for him), Snape was the bravest man he knew. To deceive Voldemort for all those years took tremendous courage and although he died for nothing in the end, he played a tremendous part in the overall victory. I'm pleased he didn't just get snuffed out like other characters. I was devastated at Lupin and Tonks being killed, poor Teddy!! At least JK explained the significance of Snape's character. Overall I enjoyed the book, not a clue what was really going on but that's half the appeal *Steps down from soapbox and salutes Severus "The Brave" Snape*

look away if you at my post you will have already spoiled it for yourself anyway!
OMG! What an fab book the best, i loved every minute of it i laughed i cryed and i loved it. as for snape dying well i was fairly certain that it would happen but i didn't like the way it happened at all but he died an hero we all knew he was dumbledores man we all knew!! i laugh in the face at all twits that thought he was bad. i believed it was snape who made harrys wand move without him knowing and i knew that the silver doe was Snape patronus i had know doubt that he would help him. I am glad that Harry realized that he was good, was nearly shaking seeing those pensieve moments. I am glad none of the trio died. but i fell upset for Fred Remus and tonks and of course mad eye but they died in battle they are heroes.
they best book ever i so hope they don't ruin it with poorly compared film.

Am I the only one not traumatised by Snape's death? I think I had been resigned to his death until Jo said that one character had gotten a reprieve. We still don't know who, but I thought it was Snape. BTW, she'll be giving a live interview on The Today Show the 26th & 27th and on Dateline on Sunday. Hopefully, we'll find out more. When Voldemort (oops, said the name, DE on the way), shoved Snape into Nagini's protective bubble, I thought that would give Harry the opportunity to blast Nagini. Didn't work out that way. Until I realized that he gave Harry his thoughts so he would know his full part in Albus' plan, I thought he had died a rather ignominous death. Not how I thought at all ... saving Harry from Nagini or Voldemort himself. But that's how it worked out once Harry was able to see his thoughts in the Pensieve. I think what really got to me was when he asked Harry to look at him, so he could die seeing Lily's eyes. So that was the importance of Lilly's eyes, wasn't it. But I didn't get it right away until after Harry saw everything in the pensieve. Then I had to go back and read Snape's death again. Agreed. I kept having to go back and reread some parts. Loved the book. I think I liked HBP just a tad better. This one seemed to leap from one improbable escape to another. Still, I clenched my stomach so much, I now have washboard abs. Dobby's death (what a shock that was) was another defining moment for Harry. And I loved Ron maturing gradually the way he did ... although there was that typical Ron/Harry argument with Ron stomping off. But I could just see his relationship with Hermione growing with her increasing respect for him, culminating in his genuine concern for the elves. I must've read that about five times before before continuing with the book. Another wonderful moment was Neville pulling the sword out of the hat and beheading Nagini. I've started reading it again. Did anyone catch who performed magic late in life? If it was there, I missed it.

I am so glad I am not the only one devastated over Snape's death. I, too, realize the importance of his role as an agent. After I read a spoiler online that stated Harry definitely lived, I somehow knew Snape was going to die. It didn't stop me from skipping to the back of the book first! Yes, people, I read the final chapter first. When I realized that Snape had not made it, I skipped back a few chapters and read from his death to the end. I cried so hard that night.
I am now reading the book, or re-reading it, a chapter at a time. This way I know the ending so nothing gets spoiled.
By far, it is one of the best books in the series. My other favorite has to be OOTP. I'm glad she included the memories of Snape's. Did anyone else feel that she had went online searching for the questions everyone was asking about Snape and then wrote that chapter? LOL, anyway. Enjoyed it, so far, tremendously.

As bizarre as this may sound, I was kinda pleased the Malfoys got a sort-of redemption; I always thought they weren't that bad (not sure where I really got that from...) just a bit misguided. I suppose Harry owes his life to Narcissa who pretended Harry was dead in exchange for knowing Draco was ok- just as well they rescued him a couple of times. (How cool was his kids' name though, Scorpius!)
I hope when they develop the screenplay for the movie they leave plenty time for Snape's death scene and pensieve memories! I think its a very important part and I hope it won't be overlooked.
I wonder if it was Snape's death or that Snape was a good'un all along that JKR told Alan a couple of years ago. Unless that was a rumour, but I'm sure I heard she had told him a secret? She must have trusted him if she did!

IE, you're not the only one. My friend called me from Italy tonight and told me she read the epilogue first.
I still have to wonder about the Malfoys. Did they spend any time in Azkaban? Did they just end up sneaking out of the Great Hall and back to the Manor? Did Harry thank Cissy for saving his life? Did Draco resent Harry for saving his life twice as Snape resented James? Is Scorpius a great name for a Malfoy or what?
Is young James Potter's middle name Sirius? As far as I'm concerned it is.
You bet they'd better spend a lot of time on Severus' death for the last movie. It would be so easy to rush right through it, but Alan better be allowed to do it right. Of course, it means seeing Alan die ... again. Somehow I imagined him dressed all in white for this scene.
Somebody on CoS, I think Nicole, said that the person who did magic late in life was Merope. Once away from her family she concocted a love potion and kept TR under her spell. Not sure if that's true or not. It seems kind of unsatisfactory to me, but I guess it makes sense.

God! I finished reading it, yesterday! And I'm not sure if I'm already ready to talk about it... Harry Potter has been so important for so many years!
well, I can say that I knew Snape would die, but the way it was, it was just horrible! nobody should die like that!
But when Harry was watching Snape's memories I could heard Alan's voice! I'm pretty sure, JK indeed told him the truth... If I'm not wrong she wanted Alan to play this role, and it's totally fit him! And I hope too, that the director give Alan the chance to play it well!
I have to say that: Snape could do anything for me but I would never call my son Albus Severus... poor kid!
Well, I loved the death of Bellatrix, Although she is one of my favorities I know she deserved to die! and I always wished Neville did it! but I liked the way it was, because it wouldn't be nice for his soul [like doumbledore would say, and I agree] but what i liked was that i was kinda pity because she is always so great with Voldie and he is so mean with her! and when she died he kinda showed that somehow he cared about her!
There are other things that i want to talk about, and I'll say it later... My mind need some time to understand that I really read the last Harry Potter

I have probably missed something important Didn't it say in the 6th one Merope had made a potion to keep Tom Riddle in love with her, but Dumbledore presumed it wore off and he left her.. I think JKR has set up a fab taster for those fan fiction writers to create some interesting stories about the junior Potters and Weasleys. And of course she could always do a series of "Potter: The Next Generation"

Just watched Part 1 of 3 of JKR's interview.
In an epilogue to the epilogue, she said that Ron and Harry are revolutionizing the Auror Department and Hermione is very high up in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She also said that there's a new headmaster of Hogwarts, but it's a new character.
She said that Snape was always evil and if he hadn't loved Lily he wouldn't have cared what happened to Harry. She said he wasn't a hero, but he was very brave.
Part 2 tomorrow on the Today Show and a whole hour of Harry Potter with the third part of her interview on Dateline, Sunday, 7pm.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been here...
Anyway, I finished the book early Sunday morning on the 22nd. I cried so much with every death, every time someone almost died, and all the other sad stuff. But I did not cry with Snape's death because I was too shocked by the way he died to shed tears. His life story is sad, though...
There were funny parts too, mainly supplied by Ron. LOL. And who didn't laugh when Ron punched Draco after they saved his life a second time? LOL. Oh and I laughed when Harry called his 2nd son by his 1st and middle names. I don't know why, but I did. And also funny: Luna.

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've been here... Welcome back. I kept waiting for Harry to leap out from behind the packing case and get Nagini since Snape penetrated the protective bubble. But Neville getting Nagini the way he did was much, much better.
