Since I recently moved, I've been able to get all my books out of storage and set up an actual library. I've now got a whole room with nothing but books and CDs. Heaven.
I've got three shelves of just books that I've never read and I'm working my way through them slowly while rereading old faves. I'm on the second book of SH's Starbridge Series (Glamorous Powers, the first being Glittering Images). Sometimes life is very good.

Cissy and Des: I just began Outlander and I'm loving it already. How did I miss this? *slaps forehead. Nevermind, I'm glad you brought it up in this thread I'll report back when I come up for air. BTW, Des I'm trying very hard not to be consumed by jealousy over your new library room. ;D Best of luck in your new surroundings.

I am working on a new room in my house and we are debating making it a den/library...like with one massive wall of books...probably the CDs too though I have to admit that I mostly download music now...who can beat the 9.99 price for a whole CD on itunes??
Anyway, yes, between hubby and I it would be quite the library, one entire shelf would have to be SW!! But it is a great idea...
Good for you Des!!! And happy reading..certainly sounds like you will have some fun with three shelves to go through.
I am about to start The Davinci Code, anyone read it?? I really want to see the movie and I try to avoid reading a book after it the movie has come out if I can help it...not always easy to do!!

Alright...it's time I get this book and read it! This is not the first time I've heard about this book, so this will be my next purchase!Okay..tomorrow...I'm going to get it tomorrow ;D! Oh...and no candescence...I haven't read the Davinci Code! The previews looked really good in the theater today though! Tom Hanks will do a very good job !

Cissy and Des: I just began Outlander and I'm loving it already. How did I miss this? *slaps forehead. ;D I know how you feel - I just started this today as well, due to the recommendations here - and I'm really enjoying it already! I just finished Long Way Round - Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman's memoirs of their bike trip across the globe. Candescence recommended it and I really liked it! It was in parts sweet and funny, and even scary. Now I have my husband reading it too! And yes, The DaVinci code is good. It's a very fast and entertaining read - once you pick it up, you won't want to put it down - so set aside a whole day! ;D I remember thinking that it reads almost like a movie script - so I wasn't surprised that they decided to make a movie out of it. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the theatres! Congratulation on your new library Desraelda! I'm completely green with envy but happy for you!

Yay, billywiggy, you read Long Way Round!! Wasn't it just wonderful? I swear Ewan could be an accomplished writer if he needed a new career (hee and a singer...love his version of Your Song)...It was just so great to see what they went through. And then to hear that last week he and his wife adopted a 4 year old Mongolian girl...after knowing what they went through to get to Mongolia and how they were affected by the stuff they saw there...wow.
Have you seen the BBC miniseries that goes along with it? Really worth a look, especially after reading the book, because you see the producers and the camera man and the doctor...and the roads they had to travel on!! Netflix has it, I just recently returned mind...
Hubby bought me DaVinci Code today...I will start it tomorrow or Sunday night perhaps when he is off to work, if I can peel myself away from the tv (HBO is on what may be its 20th showing of PoA and I keep watching it...)

Yes, candescence - I got a copy from the library - thank you so much for the rec! I have the series in my Netflix queue already - it's at the top of the list and we'll see it next week. I've seen stray episodes here and there - so I know I'll enjoy it!
That's fantastic about Ewan and his wife adopting a Mongolian girl? Was it the one he met at the Unicef site?

I am not sure if it is the same girl there have not been many details...but I tell you after reading that book I was deeply touched that he and his wife did that. I would not be surprised if it was her, he seemed so shaken by all that he saw and so taken with her.

I'm about to read Bridget Jones Diary.
I've already seen the film and have got the Box set and after avoiding it for like 7 years I've decided to read them. Anyone else read them?

Right....so I bought Outlander today and began reading it. I love it, I love it, I love it ;D! I had to order those Magics series by Lackey...so they should be in next week some time! I was looking through Lackey's books and came across Mad Maudlin. I bought it because it is about a musician, who is attending Julliard School of Music, and visits home in Boston ;D! Okay...so I went on a book buying spree...had to...all of these recommendations were just sounding so good to me ! Thank you Des, Olwen, Candescence, and Cissy

hmmm..... sounds like I will need to buy Outlander when I finally get a chance to read again. CandleEssence- I really enjoyed the Davinci Code it is the best of Dan Brown's books Angels and Demons, which he wrote before the code has , the same character Langdon(who does not look like Tom Hanks...grrr) I would recomend it if you like the Code, the others, Digital Fortress and Deception Point- not as much to my tastes.so I won't recomend them. they are more spy novelish... do you like Ludlum? then you'd like them

giggin, you are so going to love the Magic books...well, anything Lackey has written is brilliant. I'm currently rereading The Fire Rose...since it's the 100th anniversary of the Great Quake...and that's a pivotal point in the story.
For some wacky funny stuff...the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison can't be beat. (I hope that I was not this way as a teenager!) You can either buy the "teen" covers/titles or the "adult" covers/titles. You know it should be interesting when it's called Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging (teen title) (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson--the adult title)

giggin you should definitely love the Magic series by Mercedes Lackey, the first one is IMO the best one, though the rest are great.
And a character visits Boston, huh?? Well honey you will just have to let me know if I should read that one! I love the hometown stuff.

Yes - these books are quirky and fun. She does a good job incorporating Jane Austen into the books (the first one is loosly based on Pride & Prejudice, and the second on Persuasion). The first one is much better than the second, but they are both a lively read. I think if you enjoyed the movies, you'll enjoy the books even more!

Of course I've only just started Outlander, so the others are going to have to wait a little while ! Now I can't wait for those Magics books to come in ! They sound like such a good read! I will absolutely let you know, candescence, if you should give Mad Maudlin a read. I love reading stories that take place at home too ;D! As soon as I am done with Outlander...I shall start that one! The Magics books should be in by then too, and eagerly waiting for me to read them !

After two months of trudging through it, I finished reading Les Miserables. After that I think that I am going to work on the some of the books that I started that sort of fell to the wayside when Les Mis came in. I've got Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce and Outlander waiting for me.

I read them both in a space of a week and they were hilarious and yes your right Persuasion... I loved the twist at the end of the second one better than the first one though... although I would have preferred Bridget and Mark to be tying the knot rather than Jude and Vile Richard!
