I have been reading a lot of the Thursday Next books by Jasper Fforde lately. It is a very interesting series of books that take place in a sort of futuristic version of 1980's England. The books center around the character Thursday Next, who is a Literary Detective. In this world high literature is of utmost importance and Literary Detectives usually authenticate obscure manuscripts, keep counterfeit Byron off the streets, and occasionally have to deal with militant Baconians. But, LiteraTec work is almost never normal for Thursday; she has the tendency to get caught up in end of the world scenarios and life altering adventures. I've finished the first three books: The Eyre Affair, Lost in a Good Book, and The Well of Lost Plots. I'm nearly finished with the latest book in the series Something Rotten. It's basically a series that appeals to my love of science fiction and my inner lit. geek.

Those books sound interesting, I'll have to look for them.
I've just started the first of a second trilogy by Jacqueline Carey. It's called Kushiel's Scion, and continues the story begun in her Kushiel's Legacy trilogy. Quite fascinating to me. If you're interested, here are the titles: Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, and Kushiel's Avatar.
They follow the story of Phèdre, a courtesan in the land of Terre d'Ange, who has been trained by her mentor to be a spy. Needless to say, her life is...interesting.
My other favorite trilogy is the Dark Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop. Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows, and Queen of the Darkness. The titles piqued my interest, and the writing pulled me in.

I've read quite a few books (more from Agatha Christie LOL) since my last post and they are:
And Then There Were None Cat Among the Pigeons Elephants Can Remember Lord Edgware Dies Murder in Mesopotamia Murder on the Links Murder on the Orient Express
I didn't like Cat Among the Pigeons or Elephants Can Remember, but the others were really good. I have two other books that I haven't been able to read because I'm doing my summer assignments. *rolls eyes* So right now I'm reading The People's Choice for Government, and it's not half bad.

I have finally started to read at a normal speed again ( took me forever to read anything after the crushing end to HBP) just finished the Bourne Legacy (character's created by Ludlem) and Wilbur Smith's Triump of the Sun. I love Wilbur Smith. I am currently reading Clive Cussler's Black Wind

I just finished the last book in Jan Karon's Mitford series and I'm now browsing the online used book dealers to get Miss Read books. I'm re-reading the Fairacre series and I'm getting the Thrush Green series so I can have a go at them too. Miss Read (Dora Saint) is a retired teacher who writes about a teacher in the English village of Fairacre. There's a lot of books in the series and you really grow to love the characters. It's a gentle, peaceful read. Thrush Green is about a neighboring village with different characters, although som Fairacre residents make an appearance from time to time.

^^I really like the Mitford Series, too . . . it's a slow, quiet read and the characters really suck you in.

In addation to Outlander (which I haven't touched in awhile. I fear I will never catch up to the book club), I've been reading Lies My Teacher Told Me which is a really intersting and thought-provoking book on American history. But I'm a history buff, so I find that sort of stuff interesting.

I have finally started to read at a normal speed again ( took me forever to read anything after the crushing end to HBP) Just gave away all my Ludlum books except for The Chancellor Manuscript. The first WB books I read were the Ballantyne series. Then I didn't read anymore for a long while. Then I recently read The Seventh Scroll. It kept referring to River God, which I didn't realize was a book WB had actually written and was the precursor to The Seventh Scroll. I figured there was no sense reading River God because I basically knew what happened. Not so. I finally gave in and got River God and it was way superior to the other one. I just reread both of them. I'm now rereading Blue Horizon. It's the 11th in the Courtney series, but I'm not going back to read them. Once you're 10 books behind, no sense trying to catch up. My only objection to WB is all the elephant hunts. I get tired of them. But he does tell one heck of a story.

AAAArrrrrrrrgh I wrote a nice long reply to you today Des, but when I went to spell check the #**#%@! thing my computer froze. no problem, I have way too much spare time... I can wait ... no freezing turned into crashing etc... so fearless me I try again... ditto .... hmmm so what if I don't spell check? nope...again! must be trying to quote you... sigh... rant over
so un- spell checked and and now crankily in point form and containing no quotes
both the Courtney and Ballintyne series were not written in sequence, the book I just finished was written when the two families meet. yeah, there was a new elephant hunt - surprise did you ever notice how he described so many of the young female characters as having finely turned ankles? between ankles and elephants he has his next book written thanks for not mocking my mispell of Ludlum... I need to type slower and use the spell check function more

I just started working on The Secret Garden. I'm always looking for good children's literature to pass on to my nieces and nephews, and the film of The Secret Garden was one of my favorites when I was younger. I've wanted to read this book for several years now and I've finally stopped procrastinating and started it. I'm not too far yet, but I'm rather enjoying it.

I loved the movie, but haven't read the book, I'm going to look for it... I found a good read while waiting for the HP books was, Cornelia Funke's Inkheart Trilogy she's a good author and the book Thief Lord (by the same author I believe) is a good read too, I shall find out the Thief Lord's author the next time I find the book in the mountain of mess otherwise known as my bedroom... thanks for the book recommendations... I love to read!

Last week I dug up some of my books in the attic. I didn't want to reread HP again. I'm currently reading Doom of the Darksword by Weis & Hickman.
