I often think I was born in the wrong century and would have been far better suited to life in Sense and Sensibility time. I am totally Eleanor, but I would have been desperate for Alan to fall in love with me and not bloomin Hugh!

Hello! I'm new, but giggin recommended this site to me and I thought I'd come and say hey. I just watched Sense and Sensibility for the first time today and I adored it. It is now my favorite Alan Rickman movie! It's nice not to see him playing a villian (although I adore him as Snape and Sheriff of Nottingham), but a truly romantic lead.

I loathe S&S - in the same way I loathe Emma - I just cannot stand Jane Austen...yet AR makes watching it bearable - so much so that I got mum the DVD for some reason or another

Yeah...I'm so glad you popped in fallingrock! I love Sense and Sensibility (I can't stand having to spell it, but I love it) , of course..I recommended it to you..didn't I ! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Alan is so fabulous in it. I love his hair the most. I don't know why...it just stands out the most when I think of him acting his part. He is such a gentleman and your right... "a truly romantic lead." Welcome to the ARAS site!

I watch this movie a lot. Whenever I can't decide what movie to watch it's either S&S or Princess Bride. Mostly S&S. The cast, Jane Austen, the settings, the era ... with he possible exception of Hugh Grant. It's not that I don't like Hugh Grant ... he just looks so awkward in the costume. He definitely wasn't made for early 19th century fashions. Another cast member (AR of course) is absolutely right at home in that fashion.

Oh i agree, i do love Hugh Grant, but he is not made for the early 19th century. And as for Alan Rickman, he looks great in anything and made for any century! ;D Yeah i have not seen this movie yet, but over the weekend im going to try to rent or buy the movie!

^^ Oh, my. I can't believe you haven't seen S&S, Cateyes. I don't know if you like Jane Austen or not, but Emma Thompson has done a wonderful job of writing the screenplay, and of course, she's wonderful in it. Ang Lee's direction was top notch, and the scenery and the settings are perfect. Elizabeth Spriggs (the fat lady in HP) is wonderful as Mrs. Jennings and Imelda Staunton (soon to be Umbridge) is also great as her daugher Charlotte. Kate Winslet, Hugh Laurie ... Okay, I have to stop now. It's one of my favorite movies. Be prepared to feel so sorry for Alan as Col. Brandon.

^S&S isn't just an Alan Rickman movie. It's an excellent movie in its own right and very popular. Can't understand why they don't carry it.

Yes i know, but Alan Rickman movies are not the only ones i have a hard time renting or buying. I have other actors i love as much as Alan Rickman and they just never have the movies i want! Then again, some of the movies i want are a few years old!

*smiles* I was finally able to find a video rental place that had Sense and Sensibility, am I must say, it was well worth the wait to see this wonder, amazing movie. I believe this is truly one of the best films I have ever seen. Alan Rickman gives a superb performance, awhile Emma Thomson and the rest of the cast were just wonderful in the film. I must say Alan Rickman is quite handsome in the attire he wore in this film. Hugh Grant was wonderful as well, I really felt bad and alittle heart broken for Emma Thomson and Hugh Grant in the film, from the very beginning I felt they were meant for one another. As for Alan Rickman, I just wanted to go punch the screen when I saw the way Katie Winslow basically ignored him and throw herself on Willowbee. Grrrr....I was just so mad, I thought they made a great couple, I'm just glad at the end everything worked out for both couples. When I saw Alan Rickman carrying Katie, after she decided to feel depressed about Willowbee and go see his home....i nearly *fainted*. He truly loved her, since the very first time he saw her play the piano, I can't believe it took her so long to notice he cares for her. Oh I loved the scene where Alan Rickman read her poems....his voice is amazing. I'm so happy I finally was able to see this movie, now I need find the rest of the movies on my list.*laughs*

^^ Ahhhh ... so glad you've seen this movie and appreciated it. It became one of my faves from the moment I saw it even before I became infected with Rickmania.
That Lucy Steele ... I still grind my teeth every time she appears on screen. And then there's Edward's sister ... what a horrible woman.
I just loved when Willoughby was forced to watch Marianne marry Col. Brandon and then he had to ride away. And it was so lovely to see Brandon smile and be happy when they came out of the church.
I first got this movie on VHS and then immediately bought the DVD when it came out. I don't usually do that when the VHS is still good, but I just love this movie so much, I had to.
