^^ Ahhhh ... so glad you've seen this movie and appreciated it. It became one of my faves from the moment I saw it even before I became infected with Rickmania. That Lucy Steele ... I still grind my teeth every time she appears on screen. And then there's Edward's sister ... what a horrible woman. I just loved when Willoughby was forced to watch Marianne marry Col. Brandon and then he had to ride away. And it was so lovely to see Brandon smile and be happy when they came out of the church. I first got this movie on VHS and then immediately bought the DVD when it came out. I don't usually do that when the VHS is still good, but I just love this movie so much, I had to. *smiles* Thank you.Oh I know Edwards sister is such a horrible person, I wanted to jump in the screen and strangle her*laughs*Oh yes....that is actually my second favorite scene, when Willowbee saw forced to watch Col.Brandon marry the woman he could have been married too. He's smile made my heart tight, he has such a lovely smile, and your right, it was nice seeing him smile for time in the film.My favorite scene was when Col.Brandon reads Katie's character in the movie....love that voice. *smiles* I would do the same, I have done that before...I bought a movie on VHS and fell in love with the movie and could not resist buying it again on DVD.I really want to buy this movie,I'm hoping I can order it soon.

Edward's sister, Fanny, oh I hated her. I wanted to stab her with something sharp. And I agree Cateyes, my favorite scene is also the Colonel poetry reading. My signature picture is from that scene.

He looks absolutely shocked by her reaction after he tells her that he will be leaving for a while. It seems like he can't believe she actually enjoys his company.I love when she asks him about where he is going and he tells her that "it is a secret"....and then he buys her a piano.

Gosh I know....it's a real shocker as to how quickly she becomes attached to Brandon and how much she suddenly trusts him....when before she would have nothing to do with him, she would completely avoid him. Also did you see how she automatically asked him if he would be gone long!! *smiles* I too love that his first name is Christopher...i was immediately reminded of a boy I use to have a huge crush on early on in childhood.

I finally got the dvd today and ive watched it twice already i just cant tear myself away. Colonel Brandon is sooo sweet I truely love alan in this role. I agree with cateyes about the wanting to punch katie, how can anyone ignore him, he's everything anyone could want in a man. I also agree about the boots thing! I love the bit were he walks on the bords in his boots when he goes to see the witch in Rhpot. I am soo jelouse of katie, one would give anything to have a man like that. x

Hello, my name is Gela, I am new, and first I must appologize for my really bad english.
I have a question and hope, I can get an answer:
I have read the novel, but could not find the name Christopher, or I have overread it. Can someone tell me, where in the novel the name is mentioned? Or is it an invention of Emma Thompson?
Greetings from Germany - Gela

Brandon isn't given a first name in the book as far as I can recall. Even in the movie, I think his first name is only mentioned in the note that accompanies the pianoforte he sends to Marianne.

Ejoy! Isn't that the scene where he comes to issue an invitation? He looks so happy and Marianne just blows him off. Here he's made the effort to host a social event just for her and she acts like he's handed her a snake. Boo Marianne, Boo the Queen of Putrescence (Princess Bride).

Alan Rickman portrayed the role of Col. Brandon very well in this movie. I actually just watched this once and by accident. I enjoyed it because it's Alan we're talking about.

I love anything Jane Austen and I must admit that Pride and Prejudice is my favourite but there is only one Captain Brandon!
The best line in the whole film is "Give me an occupation Miss Dashwood or I shall run mad".The desperation that he shows and comes through in his voice. That is the very moment in that film when I get tears in my eyes.Another brilliant performance!!!

I loved the Colonel, he would be my ideal husband (that fool Marianne didn't realize that until the end), so sexy and so considerate.
I liked "Pride and Prejudice" too. Some people on another board I belong to think that the actor who plays Mr. Darcy looks like Alan. I don't see it, though.
