Last night I was talking with my friend, also a Rickmaniac, and she mentioned that she has never seen this movie.
I told her that she must (and one of my other friends, a non-Rickmaniac, agreed). I said that this movie had everything: a slightly snarky Alan, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, great music, love, etc.

Yay! I saw it! (Okay, I was way off on the date. Lucky I thought to check.) Very good. Better than I expected, though with such a superb cast....

I picked up this at WalMart last week super cheap. I tried to watch it last night. *sobs* I didn't watch more that 15 minutes of it. Maybe I was in a bad mood (which was why I was watching an Alan movie)... I'm not used to watching movies that are so, um, *blushes* explicit? maybe? (Not fond of language either, but can and do ignore). I just couldn't watch any more. I know everyone here is raving about it. Please help me. I want to love it too.

Oh no, you have to like it!
It is so wonderful. What annoyed you the most about it? I love all the different stories in it and how they are slightly connected to one and another.
I don't know how anyone could dislike it.

I know what scene you are on about, the naked couple eh!!!Well,to be honest I thought the film could have lost that scene,it got very dull,I mean, after the 1st scene,it just was not going anywhere, and the Keira Knightly bit really bored me(Im,sorry, but it really did,so cheesey),but as for the rest of the film,I thought it was really good,I mean,Emma Thompson is just sheer class and as for our Alan,he was just fantastic as Harry,,,,go on,give it another shot, you never know, you might like it...
Hey,if not, skip to all the Alan scenes,I am a naughty girl when it comes to Alans bits.....Hey,in films girls.....Get your minds out of the gutter please........

That movie could have deleted some parts and played more on certain areas. That couple's bedroom scene wasnt explicit I thought. (BTW, how old did you say you were). That's why maybe you were uncomfortable. That was a nice integral part to the show but could have been shortened. The other guy going to the usa and finding chicks could have been chucked out totally. Totally ridiculous. The story there wasnt love, it was lust. So...out it should have gone. I was particularly touched by the part played by BIll Nighy and his manager. He goes to see his manager on christmas eve and pours out his feelings. Now , that is love ! Maybe the Alan rickman/emma thomson story could have been explored further. I could feel her desperation and feelings of betrayal ! The way she tried to stiffle her tears and appear as though everthing was ok. .....till the right moment. I have watched the DVD several times . But my favourite part is that part with Rowan Atkinson. ! And the seduction scene with his secretary. The way she went cheek to cheek with himand said, 'It's for you, sir, its all for you !' Awwwwwwwww gOSH that neck looks soooooooooooo tempting. ! (Whomever is responsible for that picture I thank you)

Oh very good, made me laugh... You know I still dont get what our Harry saw in his secretary,or is it just me being a tad jealous of the girl? I know it is just a film, but really,Emma's character was way more loving, and I still get a shiver when she opens that box....oh,I could have hit harry right then...git!!!

Well, it's not that I'm a prude or anything, I just don't watch that many 'R' movies, and that scene with the couple I just wasn't expecting to pop up on the screen like that. (I am more of an "imagine things like that in my head" sort of person.) I really think that I was just not in a mood the other day to watch a romantic comedy, even one of Alan's. Or any other movie. After trying to watch a movie, I picked up a book and immediately felt better. (Apparently I was having a "book" day as opposed to a "movie" day.)
Don't worry. I'll watch again in a few days, and I'm sure I'll love it to death.
(BTW, I just turned 32.)

If I watch it alone, i FAST FORWARD. Seeing it once or twice is enough. pOOR girl, imagine the frustration of having to take care of a mentally unstable brother . And not being able to have a normal love life. Want a good laugh? I always fast forward to the part with Rowan Atkinson. That always lifts me up.

Ha Ha ! I think the allure there was the excitement of the chase. Maybe it was just the fact that it was Christmas and this pretty girl chasing after him. Give a man a reason to and there aint no reason for him not to! I dont think that if he didnt have the hots for her too he'd spend that much money. Two hundred and seventy pounds aint no small change. ! ;D Then again, she was the devil, he was playing with fire and his wife was feeling the heat. She was bound to give him hell !

It took me a viewing or two to actually get into Love Actually. Now I *love* this movie.
I actually liked the naked couple story line. While I'm a bit of a prude, I eventually got past their nakedness, and found their story kind of sweet actually. They're so shy towards each other when you think they wouldn't be. But I can totally see how that would make some people feel squicked out...

Love Alan Actually guys!
I was urged by A BLOKE of all people to watch this film and my sister had it and she bought it over for us to watch and I fell about laughing almost straight away! The character Alan played wasn't really evil as such, yes slap him for buying that tart of a secretary a necklace that cost £270 but all in all he did realise what an idiot he had been and stayed with his wife!
To whomever said was it Jealousy that made her think what the heck did she see in him well... we can all be accused of that then, because after watching it about ten times, I don't understand it either, too skinny!
As for that necklace... my mother found a replica of it in her jewellry box and gave it to me because of what it represents.
I love it when he says that Christmas isn't his favourite time of the year!

I am proud to say I finally own a copy of this movie! I can replay him at the jewlery counter to my heart's content I love that scene! ;D Alan is so great in it, with the frustration towards the clerk. It's funny; I didn't see the movie as being that explicit, really. But then, I'm rather, um, liberal when it comes to things like that.

That scene is so nerve racking. I can't stand to watch it sometimes. It is quite funny though (Mr. Bean). Love Actually is one of my favorites (out of many favorites of course). ;D

Update: Rewatched
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!! (nekkid couple and all)
At the end where Jamie asks Aurelia in terrible Portugese to marry him, I cheered. When Emma started crying over the CD, I cried. This is one of the best Alan movies ever!!!

I put it on and there were those explicit sort of scenes starting right in front of my girls. I hollered "Hide your eyes!!!!" LOL! They did look away incidentally but I could catch them wanting to take a peak so I chased them out of the room and got them watching a dvd in their room. It was not a comfortable moment for me since I like some things in movies left up to the imagination. And it's not like I haven't long ago taught them the facts about such things but letting them watch it acted out is something else entirely. But the concept was cute in itself (the two of them falling in love in spite of what they were doing).

I do have a question. Did "Harry" have physical relations with Mia (?? was that her name). I wasn't sure if he just gave her the gift but never did anything to physically cheat on his wife or what. I've only seen it the one time and part of another so I'm not sure.

I've only seen it the one time and part of another so I'm not sure. I think I remember reading somewhere that they left that one up to the viewer's imagination. They wanted it to be ambiguous so you could draw your own conclusions . . . Poor Emma Thompson (can't remember her character's name in the film) - everytime I see that scene where she retreats into the bedroom to listen to the CD she got as a Christmas present and breaks down . . . I breakdown

This is actually my husbands favorite Rickman movie. Try to figure that one out! We watch this one every Chritmas time along with all of our other Christmas movies . My preferred ending, of course, is that he did not actually cheat on his wife ;D. Go figure right? I guess I just like happy endings .
