I like Phantom despite its flaws...I saw it onstage when a tour passed through Des Moines 6-7 years ago. (BTW, abtibbet, Les Miserables is one of my very favorite musicals... beautiful, moving music) I haven't seen Charlie and the Chocolate factory yet, but want to. I did see Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - (in fact, I think that was the last time I've been to the movie theatre) and I liked it. Oooh - I want to see the Penguin movie, um, March of the Penguins. So cute. I've been catching up on the Rickman movies via Netflix! I don't watch much TV any more... what I do watch tends to be on the History Channel or Discovery, Animal Planet, et al; but I have a good-sized DVD collection. My absolute favorite movie of ALL TIME is The Princess Bride. Love, love, love it! I could do the whole movie verbatim . I had a Jim Henson night a weekend or two ago and watched The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. In fact, there's NOTHING on right now, think I'll dig out Labyrinth again...

You're the first person on a non-Muppet board that I have encountered that has seen those movies (or at least admits to it). I'm not much of a fan of Dark Crystal (it's a little slow, and takes itself too seriously). But I *love* Labyrinth. It has the right amount of humor (I'm not much of a fan of the fantasy genre, but with the right amount of humor, I do actually enjoy it), and it's just a fun movie. Plus I must have seen the documentary that goes with it about a MILLION times...

Maybe it's the little girl in me, but the ballroom scene actually has always been my favorite. And the showdown between Sarah and Jareth at the end, and the which-way-is-up stairs. I love the docu. that goes with it, too. It took me forever to make the connection that the choreographer for the movie is actually Gates McFadden who played Dr. Crusher in Star Trek TNG! Remember when she showed Data how to dance?

It's been ages since I've seen it (note to self: watch Labyrinth again). I loved the ballroom scene. That was just fantastic.
And ever since I saw that movie I nicknamed my dog "Ludo" (as he's a big and hairy beast, yet oh so friendly)...

I think this Summer the movies have been disappointing. The only movie I've seen which I can really recommend is "War of The Worlds". Dakota Fanning is superb in the movie. Tom Cruise was great too. Without Dakota however, the movie would have been another one of those "blow em up" action movies. Her facial expressions alone grabbed your attention. The only other movie I can recommend is "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". Johnny Depp is hillarious as Willie Wonka. I saw a couple of others and they were so bad, I can't remember the names of them. Also saw "Must Love Dogs". In short, skip it--it was a dog of a movie. It was too cutesey and the dogs were only in two scenes. The movie really dragged on.

I saw The Brothers Grimm on Friday. It was an okay movie. It was good, mindless fun, but the plot was something to be desired. I would have rather seen it at the cheap theaters. At least I still had a blast with my friends...

I just saw "The Wedding Crashers" last week . . . which was formulaic, but at times very funny. I don't tend to go for that kind of movie, but this one - some of the things that came out of Vincent Vaughn's mouth! ;D
Also saw "Fantastic Four" last night. 'Yawn'. Sorry, but such a waste. The guy from 'Horatio Hornblower' (did I get that name right?) and 'The Forsythe Saga' (Vincey) was in it. Waste of a good actor, if you ask me!

I absotively can't wait until The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe comes out! The Chronicals of Narnia are collectively my favorite work of fiction. There have been several representations of the LWW - one cartoon which was okay; and the BBC did most of the series, I think, also okay. I can't think of who the director is, but I believe Liam Neison plays the voice of Aslan. And Weta is involved with the creatures and armor and weapons, etc. I really, really hope they do a great job with this. The trailer looks fantastic. Stop by www.narniaweb.com if you're interested. There's also an official site, narnia.com, I think, or something like that. Goodie, goodie, goodie!

I got to see Sahara this weekend. I love the book by Clive Cussler, and was glad they kept alot of the humour of the book. Matthew McConaughey does a great job as Dirk Pitt. th movie isn't brain surgery.. he is a wisecracking Bond-type.. but it is enjoyable Also this weekend I cought up on some older films... 28Days Later,VanHelsing and Constantine... I was suprised at how much I enjoyed each of them as they are not in my usual film genre ...

How about Orlando Bloom, John Travolta and Alan Rickman in a movie together? I'd flatline!!! Or how about Alan Rickman and Robyn Williams in a movie. I'd like to see them do a comedy. Something totally outrageous, especially with Robyn Williams. Maybe something along the line of Bird Cage. We'd have three Beautiful men who are incredibly sexy.
I saw "Wedding Crashers" yesterday. It was the best movie I've seen this Summer. Though it does have a sexual content in it. It is NOT a kids movie. I'm going to see the new Jodie Foster movie "Flight Plan" next weekend.

I saw the new Jodie Foster movie "Flight Plan". It was EXCELLENT. I always like to arrive at the theatre early. To help time go by, I usually walk around the theatre. I heard the previews to the movie "Corpse Bride" and went in. The FIRST preview was of Goblet of Fire. I said "awesome". All the little kids in the movie theatre immediately stopped talking and were glued to the screen. Let me tell you, it looks FANTASTIC. It was the trailer that included the Snape scenes. It's good on your computer and on television, but with the theatre surround sound, it will be AWESOME. Anyway "Flight Plan" was a great movie. It captured my attention from the beginning to the end. Hardly anyone left the theatre to get popcorn and stuff. I won't give the plot away, all I will say is "Go see this movie". It's another movie you have to see in the theatre to get the full effect.

Oh, I hope I see the trailer when I go to Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit next week! I'm a big W&G fan. I don't splurge on movies too much, me and my sister usually go on holidays when they're not too busy (and 'cause we work too much). Goblet of Fire is our Thanksgiving movie and Narnia will be our Christmas one. Of course, my sister's fed up with me, cause every time I see a TV spot, I go nuts. "Act my age? Why?" Then again, this is a girl who rolls her eyes at you when you mention AR. Totally clueless.

Just saw 'Pride & Prejudice' this weekend. Not bad at all! The production value was very high, a beautiful film to look at.
Keira Knightly was rather disappointing as Elizabeth, I'm afraid. But the man who played Darcy (sorry, can't remember his name, but he's the guy from 'Spooks', that show about MI5) did an excellent job, I thought - especially seeing as how he has to compare to Colin Firth. He was very dour in it most of the time, but when you see his emotions finally, they are very convincing. I think he does understated passion a bit better than Firth did.
Anyway - although the film is not to be compared to the BBC version that came out in '95 (afterall, a two-hour movie can hardly have the depth and accurate portrayal of the book that a six-hour mini-series can) - it was really quite good. They managed to get in all the major themes and plot points. Makes me want to read the book again . . . and that's always good! ;D
