So, has anyone seen any good movies lately?
I've got a stack of DVDs that are just calling me (I spy a few that don't have Alan in them. I know, amazing), and I have no idea where to begin...

I need to get the PoA DVD. I have the first two, but not PoA. And I think it's the best of the HP movies, so far. (Hopefully GoF will be the best because it's my favorite book!) Maybe I'll ask for it for my birthday! ;D
I also want to see "Phantom of the Opera". I like musicals because I played principal keyboard in my school musical of "Les Miserables". It was amazing!
By the way, just an idea, but maybe we could start a thread about the Harry Potter movie soundtracks. I'd love being able to discuss the wonderful music John Williams composed.
EDIT: I made a Harry Potter Soundtrack thread in the Harry Potter Movies board.

Phantom of the Opera is fantastic. It's in my stack of DVDs. I don't know much about musicals, but I do enjoy them (I was tech crew in high school. I helped with The Music Man and The King and I. I even got to be a "Snow Dangler" in The King and I).
I got PoA for my birthday last year (because the DVD came out a week or two before my birthday. This year GoF will come out in theaters a little over a week before my birthday).
A soundtrack thread would be great. If you want to start a thread in the Harry Potter section, that would be great (unless I blocked that section from users starting new posts. I forgot which sections I used that setting).

Oh, I love The Phantom of the Opera. Beautiful! But I don't own it. I saw it in my AP European class. Weird, I know. But we had taken the AP test and we needed a break and we just started watching movies in class. We also saw The Great Train Robbery which reminded me of Ocean's 11, just it had less people in it, which was a good thing.

If you love Phantom of the Opera, I highly recommend Jesus Christ Superstar. This is such a FANTASTIC rock opera, and it's also by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. It's not another Passion of the Christ film though. If you watch it, don't criticize it. Just enjoy it.

Nope, haven't seen it. Johnny Depp looked kind of weird from what I saw of him in the previews...lol. Kind of had a womanly face.

I have finally seen Troy... what a good movie, the cast is really great - full of young drool worthy men ( Brad Pitt, Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana) and a handfull of familliar oldr actors too the attention to detail in the movie is great, and I didn't know until I wathced it... Sean Bean is in it! ( purr)
I have just bought Phantom of the Opera, ( on sale) but have not yet had a chance to watch it ... I need to be able to concentrate on just it the first time(I became obsesses with all things Phantom after I saw the show live in my youth)

I saw Charile and the Chocolate Factory the day it opened (which was also Harry Potter day. I had such a wonderful, fan girl day). I loved it. *LOVED* it. I've never a big fan of the Gene Wilder version (it gave me nightmares as a child), and my mom questioned me as to why I was going to see this one (as it looked even freakier), but I loved it. It has so many more laugh out loud moments and moments where I just giggled myself silly (like every Oompa Loompa song).
I thought Troy was okay. It was a bit long and boring in parts. But what it lacked in plot, it made up for it in eye candy quotient (mmmmm... Orlando Bloom). I'm glad I didn't pay full price to see it in the theater (I actually got in free, as I went with a friend who works in a theater and he got us all in for free. Good times).

I watched Phantom of the Opera for the first time last night and I LOVED it. I think I'm going to buy it because I just really enjoyed it and loved it. The songs are so beautiful and the whole movie was just done so well, in my opinion. I felt so sorry for the Phantom! I remember when I read the book I felt the same way. I even got teary-eyed at the end (I probably would have cried if my family hadn't been watching it with me. They tend to make fun of me when I cry during movies). I remember I cried at the end of the book, too. Lol, did anyone else get teary-eyed? Or do I just have over-active emotions? Poor Phantom... *runs off to watch it again* By the way, good-looking guys in the movie...Gerard Butler especially. He was brilliant as the Phantom.

I enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too. I was reluctant to go, as I had been "it won't be as good as the original" but I confess to being completing wrong! Ditch the old one, go see the new one!
My boss also tells me that when he went to see it at the weekend, the teaser trailer for Goblet of Fire was also shown, which I didn't know they had started showing in cinema's.

When I saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", the teaser trailer for GoF was included. As I was walking towards the correct theater, I heard the opening strands of music coming from the theater. So I *ran* inside (full blown Olympic type sprint), not wanting to miss any of the action.
My friends were out buying popcorn, so they missed it. And had no idea why I was so giggly for the previews...

Oh I hope the full trailer comes out soon! I can't wait to see that. Hopefully it'll have some Snape in it! If it doesn't, I'll have something to say about that!

I watched " The Phantom of the Opera" movie- and was unimpressed it is one big anachronism. Emmy Rossum as Christine is beautiful, but lacks the strength of voice to fully express ALW's music, ( you can hear the techno rounding of her voice as they add reverb to give it strength) I also found her fairly uncreative - the story is about her choosing between safety and passion, she should at least be able to express emotions Gerrard Butler's phantom was equally as disappointing. :(first of all- what was with all the pointless cape flicking? second, the Phantom was shunned from society because of his disfigured face- he looks lie he has a mild case of Acne below that mask- and his voice was not enough, straining to hit and hold notes, and lacking emotion - clearly the role was cast for looks not vocal talent. Visually the movie is impressive, however even here the movie is riddled with inconstancies, leaving to sing in a white dress, arriving in black "period costumes" bearing belly button?, and the choreography at the ball is awful- pop and lock choreography in period film??!! the upsides to this movie? ALW's score is still beautiful, Carlotta is awesome ( Minnie driver) its pretty and it gets better the second time you see it

Lost in Translation. I rewatched the end today and cried. I loved the Phantom of the Opera film, although it was definitely flawed. I thought the fact that Gerard Butler's Phantom was good looking added to the tragedy - good looking bloke in the prime of his life, shunned by society for something that really isn't that big a deal. Although I wanted to hit Patrick Wilson with a wet fish just to get some sort of reaction out of him... Ooooooooh, and I went to see Chocolate Factory yesterday Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. It really captured the creepier side of the book. I wasn't too sure about the Oompa Loompas at first, but by the time they were doing impressions of the Darkness and the Beatles, I was converted Don't touch the squirrels nuts! *dies laughing* Amelie and Spirited Away are great movies too
